────୨ৎ 1988 ୨ৎ────

The hospital was cold and cruel - its hallways stretched like an endless walkway. The cool grey walls entrapped her in its clutches and the medical scent filled her thoughts creating a mind that couldn't think of anything else.

She was used to being stuck in hospitals.

The normies didn't like her - they didn't like the idea of one singular girl being able to end their lives with a simple cut of a string.

They hurt her. She felt like one of those witches in Salem. Hunted.

She was used to being hated. It was her life now.

The hospitals were far more than used to her by now. She even had her own room.

But now she had a new neighbour.

A boy had moved into the room opposite her, just across the hallway. Apparently he had an illness with his heart.

And to be perfectly honest - Demitra was nosy.

She moved across the hallway and knocked on the door to his room.

''Come in.'' a sharp voice spoke.

The girl opened the door and walked in. The room was a mess. The hospital bed had been pushed against the wall with a window to provide more floor space; dozens of scribbled pages of notes adorned the ground, and there must have been thousands of meticulous drawings and sketches scattered around the room. The pictures and findings had also moved onto the walls and a mechanical table where science equipment sat.

''Hello?'' she said to a boy that had his back to the door.

She could see him frantically scribbling, she could see his dark curls and thin frame.

The boy turn around and quickly stood up off the bed.

''Hello, I haven't seen you around here before.''

''I'm in and out of here. A lot.''

''You're an outcast?''

''I am how did you know?''

''Normies hate outcasts. And I can see it. Your different than the others.''

''Are you an outcast too.''

''I am.''

Demitra moved closer to the boy excitedly, ''You tell me yours, I tell you mine.''

The boy smiled sheepishly.

''I can move things with my mind.''

''I can top that. I let people die.''

''I can see why the normies hate you. There jealous.''

Demitra paused, ''You think? No one's ever told me that before.''

''Course, its amazing.''

Demitra smiled slightly, a deep blush staining her cheeks. ''What are you working on?''

''A new heart, the one I have doesn't work.''

''You must be pretty smart then.''

''Well I hear it enough so it must be true.''

''Ok ego,'' she laughed.

The boy smiled and moved over to a table of get well soon cards. He picked up a singular red rose from a vase and moved closer to Demitra.

He handed it to the girl who stared at the flower fondly.

''What's your name?'' he asked.

''Demitra Rose.''

''That's beautiful. And fitting,'' he said signalling to the flower in her hands,''maybe I should call you that from now on - Rose.''

''I'd like that. What's yours?''

''Isaac Night, I can tell we are going to be good friends Rose.''
