''I can't believe you all could have been so brainless!'' Principle Dort fumed.

''Haha, brains, zombie, brainless.. no? ok sorry,'' Demitra laughed awkwardly before shaking her head and looking at the floor.

She was terrible in these kinds of situations.

''What were you all thinking, bringing a zombie into the school grounds and on a camping trip!?'' he ranted.

''Principal Dort, Slurp doesn't like people using that words,'' Pugsley spoke before silencing himself once receiving Principal Dort's stony glare.

''You are all lucky I'm not expelling you, thankfully, for your sake, I'm just not that type of principal, however, all three of you will be in detention for the whole afternoon. Do you understand?''

''Yes, Principle Dort,'' they droned in unison.

It was going to be a long afternoon.

''So, what exactly are we looking at?''Eugene asked.

Bianca, their detention advisor, replied, ''Gala invitations. Each one needs to be stuffed and sealed.''

''Why are you sucking up to Principal Dort, Bianca?'' Demitra asked.

''None of your business, string girl,'' she snapped back.

Demitra snorted, ''Ok fish face.''

''I'll count this towards your mandatory community service hours.'' Principle Dort said, strolling into the room with a smug smile.

Ajax then tried to reason with the angry principle, ''I'm not sure why I was punished, when these three morons are the ones who hid the brain-eating zombie.''

Principle Dort simply ignored the boy before gesturing to the teacher with his head in a tank, ''Professor Orloff has kindly agreed to supervise. We need these invitations out pronto. Bianca will show you how it's done.''

''I actually have a personal matter I need to attend to,'' Bianca said apologetically.

Dort frowned, ''These invitations are your only priority.''

''I know, but you don't understand–''

''I have to tell the board that we missed our first fundraising goal because we haven't landed our top donor yet. But that's what you do when you're a leader. You take the heat for other people's screw-ups.'' he scowled.

An awkward tention filled the room.

Orloff interrupted it by instructing, ''Okay, people. Let's get busy. Those envelopes won't stuff themselves. And I've got my eye on you two.'' he said to Ajax and Bianca.

The detention was boring and tedious, Demitra had given up on sealing envelopes as she gave herself yet another paper cut.

She now filled her time with brainstorming ideas for her gala dress. It had to look perfect.

Who knows - maybe she would have a date to go with?

Her attention shifted to the gorgon tripping over in front of Professor Orloff, swiftly removing his beanie and stoning the shocked head.

She didn't here what the two younger boys said but it obviously annoyed Bianca as she removed her necklace pulling them into her gaze and trance before saying, ''Stay here and finish the rest of the invitations.''

An hour had passed and the envelopes still weren't finished. Orloff's stone head was still stuck bobbing around his tank and the boredom remained in the room.

That was until a scream tore through the air and a crow clattered into the window.

The trio rushed over, watching as the quad was alive with a murder of crows swooping down and causing havoc.

The bird that had previously banged into the window, regained its strength and stood up, peering at them through the glass before squawking loudly and flying off.

''If only my strings worked on birds,'' she grumbled.

There was something peculiar about the crow, it only had one, red eye.

Much like slurp, she thought.

Her mind drifted to the zombie, she didn't know why, but a part of her wished he was alive. Maybe there was a chance of him regaining his human nature and fitting back in.

If she had just stayed in the tent, none of this would have happened.

She thought to all the times he showed signs of sweetness - the rose, the necklace, connect four.

He wasn't completely evil.

He just had a craving for brains apparently.

Demitra had heard of the asylum he was placed in - a fortress haunted by rumours of experimentation and mistreatment.

She could only imagine how the place would react to a zombie.

She just wanted to know if he was safe.

Maybe I should visit him - she thought. She soon shook the notion out of her head thinking it was silly.

Visiting a zombie?

When has anyone wanted to do that?

Besides, Dr Fairburn would never allow it.

Alas, the idea stuck around in Demitra's head until it filled every nook and cranny of her thoughts.

She would just have to find a way in.

And there was only one person who she knew had that power.

She pulled her phone out of her pocket and dialled the number.

''Hello?'' the receiver's voice crackled down the phone.

Demitra sighed before answering.

''Mother, I need your help.''
