The camping trip had began.
The quad was alive with the flurry of excitement as bags were transferred onto the buses and nervous jitters of the younger years who ran around like skittish mice.
Demitra stood to the side, wanting to cherish the feeling of being able to go indoors for as long as she could before being stuck in the outdoors.
All of a sudden, her peace was interrupted by an incredibly agitated Enid.
''Ugh that Agnes is a piece of work,'' the blonde huffed.
''What now?'' Demitra chuckled.
''She kidnaps me for a start and then threatens me, and what does Wednesday do? Absolutely nothing!'' she cried.
''Just ignore her, she'll never replace you, Enid.''
''Thank you Demitra,'' she said gratefully before taking a deep breath and saying, ''are you alright? You've been quiet ever since that night in the woods. Us roomies need to stick together, so you can tell me.''
''It's nothing honestly,'' she said, but Enid didn't look convinced, so she said something she knew would steer her away, ''Just busy thinking about the gala.''
''Omg I can't wait!'' Enid squealed, her mood instantly switching, ''please say I can get you ready for it!''
''Of course, I need your expert opinion.'' Demitra grinned.
Enid jumped up and down, squealing before running to the bus.
Finally, they had arrived at camp Jericho.
Even Demitra had to admit, it was charming.
Well it was, until she saw a coffin being dragged across the floor.
''Pugsley, what is that?''
''Nothing..bye!'' he shouted before shuffling off.
The camp was undoubtedly comforting. As much as Demitra hated to admit it, maybe the camping wouldn't be as bad as she thought.
Trees surrounded it, campfires were dotted around meticulously and the soft wood of the buildings created a warm welcoming feeling.
Smiles adorned everyone's face and joyful laughter rang through the air.
Nothing could bring her mood down.
Well, that was until she heard a certain Pugsley Addams hiss her name.
Demitra rolled her eyes.
One day - she thought - she just wanted one day when she wasn't dragged into their stupidity.
She followed the boys into their tent - a stripy black and white structure surrounded by fireworks for some reason.
Walking into the tent, she immediately saw him.
The black coffin Pugsley had been dragging had now been propped up and opened, revealing an unhappy slurp chained up.
''Of course,'' she mumbled in an annoyed tone before raising her voice, ''of course you brought the damn zombie!''
''Shh you'll agitate him,'' Pugsley spoke.
''Are you insane?! Pugsley what were you thinking?''
''I told you, we can't leave him in the shed, he'd get lonely,'' Pugsley said sadly.
''I don't think zombies care about loneliness,'' Eugene frowned.
''Well clearly slurp must, seeing as Pugsley here decided to bring him along camping.'' she hissed.
Then suddenly, the loud, bright sound of Principal Dort's trumpet rang through the air - they were being summoned.
''Ok, me and Pugsley will go to the meeting and Demitra, you will stay here and make sure he doesn't.. well.. eat anyone?''
''Why do I have to?''
''You're older, you could take him down if needed,'' Eugene shrugged nonchalantly before him and Pugsley strolled out the tent.

''No slurp, it has to be a line of four,'' Demitra sighed, repeating herself for the fifth time.
She had figured it would be best to distract the zombie, in hope that he would think about brains slightly less.
And as the two sat cross legged on floor - she had to prop up Slurp against the bed as he seemed to sort of flop around - she realised that maybe an intellectual game wasn't the best idea.
So she had dug out an old board game, she presumed the boys had bought it to pass time. And of course, it had to have been connect four - a game that required forward thinking and smart moves, which probably wasn't best suited to a zombie with no brain.
The tent was silent as Demitra set up the game once again, and that is when she heard a gentle ticking sound coming from the monster.
Gently and cautiously, she reached forward and carefully moved his jacket to the side. The zombie flinched.
As his jacket moved, she spotted clockwork heart embedded in his chest.
She gasped slightly.
It was him. The man from that scary story that was told in the school on stormy nights.
''I have one just like that,'' Demitra said softly, picking up her necklace from around her neck and showing him, ''see?''
The zombie growled softly before grabbing something from his jacket pocket - the rose she had given him.
It had slightly wilted and by the looks of things, been slightly chewed by maggots but its sweetness of the gesture still remained.
''Thought you would have eaten it by now,'' Demitra jested.
The zombie gently placed the rose in the button hole of his coat before looking at her, almost for reassurance.
She simply smiled at the strange creature. Maybe he didn't deserve the uneasiness she felt with him.
Maybe there was still some human left in him after all.
