By the time we gathered on the field, the sun had warmed the grass, and everyone’s energy was high. Percy stretched like he was entering the Olympics, Yuri leaned back laughing at his own jokes, and Aries stood solid, scanning the field.

I stood with them, hands in my pockets, my face unreadable.

But my eyes… they kept drifting.

Across the field, Jay Jay stood with her group, her laughter ringing louder than the professors’ instructions. She looked so alive in the morning light—so free. And I wanted, more than anything, to walk up to her. To pull her away from everyone else. To just… steal five minutes.

Five minutes where she didn’t have to act like just another girl, and I didn’t have to act like I didn’t care.

Instead, I stood still. The picture of cold, controlled Keifer Because that’s all I was allowed to be here.

But inside, my chest ached with one relentless thought:

I want her to myself. Just once. Just for a moment.

Author's POV

The students gathered in the open field, the air buzzing with chatter. Professors raised their clipboards and announced the first activity:

“Alright everyone,” one professor called, raising his voice above the chatter.
“For our first game, you’ll be grouped into teams of four. Each team will go on a clue hunt around the resort grounds. Work together, solve the riddles, and race to the finish. Remember—it’s teamwork that counts.”

Groans and cheers rose from the crowd. Some students clutched their friends, whispering desperate hopes not to be separated. Others bounced with excitement.

Jay Jay stood with Krystal gripping her arm. “I hope we’re together,” kry whispered, eyes shining.

Jay Jay nodded, though her chest felt tight. Her eyes flicked across the field—just once, just enough to find him. Keifer stood with Yuri and Percy, his hands shoved into his pockets, the picture of calm. He wasn’t looking her way. Not even a little. But somehow, she still felt him there.

The professor began calling names.

“Team One…”
“Team Two…”

Each announcement sent ripples of cheers and sighs through the students. Jay Jay’s heart thudded harder with every name skipped.

Then it came.

“Team Three: Keifer ,Jasper,Yuri, Krystal ”

Jay Jay froze.

Kry gasped beside her, squeezing her arm tight. “Yes! We’re together!” she squealed.

But Jay Jay’s ears were ringing. Her name… right after his. Keifer  Jay Jay  The sound of their names side by side sent her stomach flipping.

Her eyes darted across the crowd, almost against her will. Keifer’s gaze was already on her. Just for a second. Just long enough for her to feel the weight of it. Then he looked away, expression unreadable.

Yuri laughed, jogging over to them. “Looks like we’re a dream team!” he announced, clapping Keifer on the shoulder before grinning at the girls. “We’ll win this, easy.”

Kry nodded eagerly. “Definitely!”

Jay Jay forced a small smile, trying to match their enthusiasm. But her chest was tight, her heart drumming painfully fast.

Keifer approached last, slow and steady, his hands still tucked in his pockets. He didn’t say anything. Just stood with them, tall and composed, as though nothing about this mattered.
