For years, Allison had been a weight on his shoulders, an unshakable presence in the back of his mind. But now? Now she was just a person sitting at a table, sipping a drink, watching him leave.

The sun had started to set, casting warm streaks of orange and pink across the sky. Edward breathed in deep, letting the cool air settle his nerves.

Edward: It's over.
A response came almost immediately.
Noah: Proud of you.
Edward's lips twitched.
Edward: Aren't you gonna ask what happened?
Noah: Don't need to. You walked away. That's all that matters.
Edward exhaled slowly, a warmth spreading through his chest.
He walked down the street, heading back toward campus, back toward home.
And this time, for the first time, he wasn't looking over his shoulder.
