"This is a terrible idea," Edward muttered, staring at the backseat of his car, which was now stuffed with Noah's things.
Noah leaned against the passenger door, arms crossed, lips twitching. "It's a fantastic idea."
Edward turned to him, exasperated. "You don't even go to my college."
"Wow," Noah said dryly. "Way to rub it in."
Edward groaned, dragging a hand through his hair. "I just—I don't know if this is smart."
After everything that had happened with Allison, Edward had left town as fast as possible. His summer break was over, and his dorm was waiting for him—his single room, his little safe haven where he could breathe.
And now, Noah was coming with him.
Not officially—he wasn't enrolling or anything—but he had taken a remote job, and since he technically had no reason to stay in town anymore, Edward had blurted out, You could stay with me before he really thought about it.
And now here they were.
"Relax," Noah said, nudging Edward's arm. "You have a single. No one's gonna care."
Edward let out a slow breath. "I guess."
Noah's smirk softened. "Hey." He tilted his head slightly, looking at Edward in that way that always made Edward's stomach feel weird and fluttery. "You want me there, right?"
Edward swallowed. "Yeah."
Noah arched an eyebrow. "Then what's the problem?"
Edward hesitated. "I just..." He exhaled. "I've never had this before."
Noah's expression flickered—understanding, quiet. He didn't say anything for a moment. Then he reached over, slipping his fingers through Edward's and squeezing once. "Me neither."
Edward's chest ached in a way he didn't entirely hate.
"...Okay," he muttered. "Let's go."
Noah grinned. "That's the spirit."
And just like that, they left town behind.
Together.
