Cubile animus: The nest of souls

Ethan's pov

*Whitechapel High*

It's been 2 days, and we still haven't seen Rory since the party. We try calling his mom, but every time we call it just ends up being a voicemail.

" It's a shitty joke right? I mean all this has to be some sick prank, a dream. He can't... he can't really be dead right?" Benny asked still in disbelief.

" I heard his heartbeat man, it stopped when he hit the floor. He's gone." I'd said looking at him.

We were about to leave, when all of a sudden Rory walked up to us, looking completely different from before.

" Guy's what's up," Rory said 

" Rory, you're alive, but you're heartbeat. We thought you were dead." I said in shock.

" Yeah, we thought we would never again man, we've been trying to call you for the past two days, where have you been?" Benny asked.

" Sorry bros, but all I can remember is that I woke up the morning after the party feeling awesome. No asthma, no glasses, and I barely need to sleep anymore. Though the only problem is the sun, kind of annoying." Rory explained.

" Wait a minute, so you're a fledgling too?" Benny asked

" Pfft, hell no! I'm rocking the full vampire action baby. The big V. He said, making a V with his fingers. " Can I a what-what?" He said holding his hand up for a high five.

" What? Hold on, you drank human blood?" I asked, in terror.

" They said if I didn't I would die. All the other kids were doing it!" Rory said trying to explain.

" Rory, you dipshit! Do you have any idea what you've done to yourself?" Benny exclaimed.

" I'm immortal and all-powerful, dude. Ka-chow." He said

" You're fourteen Rory. Not to mention that you still sleep with a night light." I replied.

" First off I'm fourteen in a half, second off that was one sleepover ok. One!" He said while Jesse's friends showed up.

" Oh, sorry guys but I gotta go to church," Rory said.

" Church, vampires don't do church," I told him.

" Jesse said we have to, he's so bossy. He's all, blah-blah the prophecy, and blah-blah we must find the Cuban animal, or whatever." Rory rumbles on.

" Cuban animal?!" We exclaimed, " What the hell are you talking about?" Benny asked.

" I don't know, that's what it sounds like. Anyway, we'll hang out later, or fang-out! Zing." He said showing off his vampire fangs and walking away.

" Come on, grab your bag and bike. We're going to church. I'd said as I got on my skateboard.

" What? Hey Ethan wait for me." Benny said grabbed his bag and bike.

Next Scene

As we ride down to the sidewalk carefully making sure no vampires saw us following them.

When we got there Benny went inside to get holy water and I hid behind a tombstone, after a few minutes Benny came back with a big jug of holy water.

" Shh! They're over there. I think they're looking for that Cuban thing Rory was talking about." I said.

"Tch, look at them. Hoodies and sunglasses, nice look if you're an emo." Benny said,

" Hey," Sarah said coming to us.

" Ah! Oh hey, looking good." Benny said trying to act cool.

" What are you doing here?" I asked her.

" Same as you. I'm following them, I just wish I knew what they're up to." She said.

" Well according to Rory, they're after something called the Cuban animals," Benny said.

" Cuban animals? You mean cubile animus. I heard Jesse mention it before, I think it's laitn or something." Sarah said.

As we were continuing to watch the vampires, Sarah pleaded with a hand on my shoulder. This caused me to have another vision, this time I saw a gravestone, but the numbers on it disappeared, leaving behind the number 219. I also saw the cubile animus itself.

" Two hundred and nineteen," I said after my vision stopped.

" Ok, Wikipedia says that cubile animus means nest of souls," Benny explained.

" I think I just saw it, this little box with weird carvings on it," I explained.

" A box? Like that one?" Sarah asked, pointing to the box the vampires just dug up.

" Great, how long until something hatches from that thing?" Benny asked.

" We have to stop them, right now!" I said.

" Heh, well lucky for us, we got a fresh supply of anti-vampire juice," Benny said showing us the jug full of holy water, but some water spilled out and got on Sarah.

" Ow! What the hell!?" Sarah exclaimed, which caused the vampires to notice us.

Then out of pure instinct, I grabbed Sarah and Benny and ran as fast as I could. The next thing we knew we were a few miles away from the church and ended up on the sidewalk.

"Whoa, how did you do that?" Benny asked me.

" I honestly don't know, but it was awesome," I said smiling.

" Uh yeah, so what's with these visions? Do you get them often?" Sarah asked.

" No, they started when you showed up actually. It's like my eyes opened this door to another dimension. It happens when you and I touch, here." I said, reaching my hand out to her.

" Nice try Casanova," Sarah said, pulling her hand away.

" Can't blame a player for trying. But maybe I'd get visions too." Benny said reaching out his hand, but I slapped it away.

" Cut it out, you don't get visions," I said to him.

" And if I see that hand again, I'll consider it a snack," Sarah said.

" Alright moving on, so Jesse never told you what the prophecy is about or what 219 means?" I asked her.

" No, I'm just a fledgling remember? He'd only tell a real vampire." Sarah said.

" But none of them is dumb enough to just tell us," Benny said.

" Well one of them is," I replied. Look at him.

" And I got his number." He said catching on to my idea.

" Ok Benny, you call Rory and tell him to meet me at my house. Sarah, you head to the library and try to find any information about this prophecy or the Cubile animus." I said.

" Got it," Benny replied.

" Ok, but what are you going to do?" Sarah asked me.

" I'm going to do my own kind of research, I need to find out what's going on with me. Hopefully, whatever is happening to me I can learn to use." I said, after that, we all split up.
