A dance, to me, was nothing more than a command given. However, the warm breath on my neck and the pheromones wrapping me in heat made me shiver, provoking uncontrollable beats in my stupid heart. I opened my eyes, surprised at myself; that reaction was neither natural nor something I had experienced before. On the other hand, it was different to feel the brush of each finger on the skin of my arms, or simply the warmth of his palm on my waist. That alone was enough to alert my senses.
I stopped dead in my tracks, and he did the same. He pulled away without really letting distance separate us. His eyes met mine, and he smiled awkwardly. But it was so… real, so natural, so…
No!
That was impossible. I must be going crazy—maybe it’s because of work these past few days, or because of this man’s relentless demands on his employees.
“Should we stop, sir?” I asked, and he simply raised an eyebrow, looking at me as if I had said something stupid.
“Why should we? We’re having a great time” he said, pulling my body forcefully against his. “Don’t you think so, Zhenya?”
He smiled again, this time with his eyes. How I hated when he did that.
“Sir, people will think otherwise if you keep acting like this” I countered, motioning with my eyes toward everyone in the room.
“That’s even better than what I planned” he whispered, and I rolled my eyes.
“I’m glad to hear your plan is going perfectly, but next time use someone more believable”I said, moving slightly away from him while smiling at those who were watching us.
“Believable?”
“That’s right, sir.”
“Tell me why something between the two of us wouldn’t be believable.”
“I don’t know, maybe because we’re alpha and enigma?” I answered with obviousness, rolling my eyes while he chuckled. What on earth was so amusing?
“Come on, I didn’t think you were the type to believe that nothing could exist between alphas.”
“Because nothing can exist, sir. I don’t know what kind of education or ideas you have, but in my case I don’t see a relationship with someone of my same caste as possible.”
“Listening to you, you sound like one of those old men who still believe an alpha must be with an omega by obligation and by nature.”
“That’s how I was raised, and that’s what I believe is right.”
“Alright, alright. Still, this is just part of the plan. Don’t worry so much; surely there are plenty of people here who think like you, and they only see us as two friends who just happen to be dancing.”
