New Life in a Broken World

---

The smell of smoke and metal filled the air. Every breath was a reminder of the ruined world they lived in. Crumbling buildings. Blackened skies. The ever-present threat of the Krang. And yet—despite it all—there was hope. Or at least, there was Raphael.

Raph had been your rock since the war began.

The two of you had grown close during the resistance, and your bond had only deepened as the years trudged on. Life wasn’t gentle. Supplies were low, safety was rare, and every day was a fight. But in each other's arms, you found a strange kind of peace.

Which made your recent fatigue all the more frustrating.

"Ughh… not again," you groaned, doubling over behind a wrecked car in the middle of the resistance's temporary camp. The contents of your stomach came up in a wave, leaving you panting and sweaty.

April O’Neil crouched beside you, rubbing your back with a firm hand. “Y/N, that’s like the fourth time this week. You sure it’s just the rations?”

You wiped your mouth and muttered, “Maybe the stress… or whatever Donnie’s trying to pass off as protein powder.”

April gave you a look. One eyebrow raised, mouth slightly parted. She tilted her head. “Or… maybe it’s something else?”

You blinked. “What are you trying to say?”

“I mean…” she said, helping you up, “have you… missed anything lately?”

You froze.

Your brain did the math.

One month. Maybe more. You had felt off lately. Nauseous in the morning, lightheaded, even more exhausted than usual. The increased cravings. Your sense of smell going haywire. The subtle tension in your chest. How had you not noticed?

April was grinning before you even said a word.

“Oh my god,” you whispered, hand on your stomach. “April… I think I’m pregnant.”

“Girl, we need to go to Donnie’s lab. Now.”

---

Donatello had set up his lab in a reinforced underground train station. Between makeshift generators and salvaged tech, he had managed to recreate diagnostic equipment that rivaled pre-apocalypse medical scanners.

April practically dragged you through the tunnels.

“Yo, Donnie!” she called out, nearly breathless with excitement. “We need a scan. Like, right now!”

Donatello, now taller, sharper, and more cybernetic than ever, looked up from a half-assembled drone. “If this is about that weird fungus growing on the food stores again, I swear—”

“It’s not the food. Y/N might be pregnant.”

Donnie’s brows lifted in surprise. He stood and gestured for you to sit on the medical cot. “Really? Raph’s gonna lose his mind. Sit. Let’s confirm before we celebrate the end of the world with a baby shower.”

The scan was quick.

You held your breath, watching the old tech flicker to life with soft beeps and a grainy image. Donatello adjusted the makeshift monitor, and then—

A tiny, flickering heartbeat.

You stared.

So small. So alive.

“…That’s a heartbeat,” you whispered.

Donnie nodded with a rare, gentle smile. “You’re about six weeks along, give or take. It’s early, but stable. That little blip right there? That’s your baby.”
