A low groan echoed  the candlelit cave as talismans burnt and a golden light blinded the

Eyes opened.

Jaeyun drew a breath for the first time in centuries, cold air filling his lungs. He was groggy, aching, and confused. The last memory he had was of fire. Chains. Screaming.

Now he was here.

He blinked against the dim light, only to find himself not alone.

Just a few feet ahead, a girl lay unconscious, blood staining her clothes. Her chest rose faintly—still breathing. Barely.

And crouched over her was something. A low-level demon, gnashing its teeth, licking its lips with a grotesque hunger. It didn't even notice Jaeyun had risen.

That pissed him off.

He stepped forward, dragging a foot through a burnt-out talisman. The ashes flared faintly beneath his heel.

The demon finally noticed.

It snarled and hissed.

"Who the hell are you supposed to be?" it growled.

Jaeyun tilted his head lazily. "You're loud."

He reached out in one swift motion, hand curling around the creature's throat.

"Don't you have any manners?" he asked with a casual scoff. "You wake me up and then try to eat someone before introductions?"

The demon's eyes widened as realisation dawned, its voice trembling. "You-You're...You're Jaeyun.... from Samsan Village..."

A faint smirk curved Jaeyun's lips. "Good. You know your history." His tone darkened, eyes narrowing. "What year is it?"

"Two-2025," the demon sputtered.

Jaeyun's smirk dropped. He released the demon and stepped back.

"Two thousand... twenty-five?" He muttered to himself, glancing at his own hands. "I've been asleep that long...?"

Everything around him felt wrong.

He turned back to the demon, who was now cowering on the floor. "Well then. You're going to show me around. Won't you?"

The demon nodded furiously.

But Jaeyun wasn't looking at him anymore.

His eyes had returned to the girl.

There was something about her. Familiar in a way that made no sense. A pull in his chest. A flicker of something old.

She looked fragile.

Too much blood.

Jaeyun knelt beside her, placing a hand gently over the gash on her chest. Warm light radiated from his palm as the wound stitched closed, the blood vanished, and the bruises faded. Her breathing steadied.
