season one CHAPTER 010
"You have to meet me halfway."
NOVEMBER 10th, 2023 friday
Natalie was currently running a quick pace in her midday track practice. She was ahead of a majority of the group, per usual.
She was the fastest one in track as Erin was right behind her. A couple weeks ago, she took best time from Erin which she didn't enjoy so much, considering her mom was their coach.
She begins to finish up her lap, Jackie right beside her whilst doing so. She crosses the white line a foot in front of Jackie, keeping her the team leader. "Nice work, girls!" Coach Collins congratulates Jackie and Nat.
"Jackie it looks like you're our second team leader!" She cheers, making Erin furious.
"No, Im second. I was just about to be first." Erin takes a step closer to her mom as Natalie pants lightly, pressing her hands onto the side of her hips.
"And when you beat both Natalie and Jackies time, you will be again." Her mom nods.
Eventually they get into a bicker, sending Erin off to do five extra laps as Jackie started to talk to their coach. Natalie looks around, smiling at some of her fellow teammates before her attention is caught by her boyfriend walking across the big field and to her.
She gives a small smile, looking back at her coach and his mother, then back to him. "Shouldn't you be in fourth period right now?" Natalie steps closer and avoids giving him a hug, considering she's sweaty from running for 30 minutes straight.
"Yeah, I said I had to go to the bathroom." He rubs the back of his neck as Natalie looks down at her watch just to notice they had 20 minutes left of their fourth period until lunch.
And her coach usually let them in at this time considering they had to hit the showers.
"Look, I have a question." He sideways smirks down at her, causing her to look up at him with confusion. "We are all leaving at lunch to go to Dylan's lakehouse for this ..thing." He stuffs his hands into his jacket pockets.
Natalie laughs before he could let out another sentence. "If this is your invitation then no thank you." She pushes back the flyaways in herm easy bun. "I have two other classes after lunch, I can't do that." She forms her lips into a line.
He groans, "You never do anything I want to." He shuffles his feet on the ground under him, rubbing the back of his neck aggressively. "Look, you have to meet me halfway." He deeply exhales, looking back at her.
She could tell there was a tension building up between them. I mean, they never even talked about halloween.
