Chapter Thirty One : Fire

Y/n sits up in her bed with a yawn, reaching up to rub her eyes. She doesn't register anything except for how insanely warm her room is, and it takes her a second to notice anything else. As soon as her vision is clear, she looks around her room. It's still dark out, but there's a flickering light brushing against the doorframe.

"Goodness gracious." She mutters as she slides to the end of her bed to slip on her slippers. "Why is it so warm?" She asks herself, rising to her feet.

She wanders over to her door, still a little out of it and not all there, and reaches for the doorknob, giving it a good pull. She backs away with a gasp as tears well up in her eyes.

The hallway is drowning in fire. There's fire climbing up the walls and eating away at the staircase. She can't hear anything over the sound of the fire and wood creaking. There's a heavy cloud of smoke in the air. She can hardly breathe.

For a second, she's stunned. She can't move. She atomically assumes she's going to die. That somehow, her parents' home was going to be burnt down with her inside. It's then that she realizes that she's not alone. She hasn't lived alone for months now.

"Izuku!" She yells, her throat dry. Y/n makes a move to try and leave her room, but the flames tickling her ankles stop her.

Y/n slams her door shut and stumbles over to her window. She struggles to open it, her hands shaky and her arms weak. Eventually, she's able to push it open. The smoke that had gathered in her room is pulled out by a small breeze.

She folds over coughing, her eyes searching for anyone who could help. Thankfully, she can see a hoard of people and horses running up the hill.

"Help!" She calls out into the night, "Help!"

Y/n looks down at the ground beneath her window. Sadly, there's no way she'd survive the fall. She's too high up and there's no way for her to climb down. She'd have to wait for someone to help her down.

The Sheriff can be seen delegating a tasks, assigning people to different sections of the house. Water is passed out to eager men and women and soon people are running inside.

"Stay where you are Miss L/n! Folks are on the way!" The Sherrif orders.

Y/n can't help but cry. Cry for Izuku and their puppy—her heart breaks at the mere thought of their charred corpses—and cry for the house her parents had built. Cry for the possibility that she might not make it out alive.

She can faintly hear the sound of people shouting, but she can't make out anything they're saying. A scream rips through her throat as the sound of a floor caving in rings through the house. She takes careful steps towards the door, where she can see a massive hole in the floor just down the hall. She only cries harder.

With every inhale she takes, her lungs fill up with smoke instead of oxygen. Y/n doubles over, gnarly coughs escaping her mouth. She slaps a hand over her mouth and runs back into her room. She's quick to stick her head out the window, taking in as much oxygen as she can.

"Y/n! Y/n! Darlin' look at me! Are you okay?"

Y/n lifts her head to locate the voice shouting for her, and she can't help but feel so relieved to see Katsuki jumping down off of his horse, running towards her window. "Answer me! Are you okay? Are you hurt?"
