Jackalyn Rainosek: People Leading Themselves

Too many of us wander through life wondering whether we really are in charge of what we're doing. We wake up and go to work, come home and spend a few hours with our families, go to bed, and then wake up the next day and repeat the process.

Sometimes it can feel like quicksand: the more you struggle against it, the deeper you seem to get. We all have to face our limitations, and it's important to understand there are many things that are within our control, probably more than we realize. It's easy to point the finger of blame at the things that we think are holding us back. That seldom gets us what we really want. No matter what our personal circumstances might be, what a lot of us really need is to understand that we have more power than we realize.

Jackalyn Rainosek is the co-owner of DTP-Leadership, whose tag line is "Disrupt the present in service of the future." She defines her work as facilitating learning for individuals, teams and organizations. "I teach people how to lead themselves, and then be able to lead others in organizations." She says that DTP Leadership is the only company that she knows of that has a habitual patterns assessment that helps people to identify the patterns of behavior that are holding them back, and blocking them from personal and professional success. She is a graduate of the University of Texas-Austin, Texas State University, and of Texas A&M University-College Station, where she earned a Ph.D. in Counseling and Educational Psychology in 1984.
