"Peter?" he called out and his voice echoed through the charred building. Derek had tried rebuilding it to its former glory, but it still looked like a haunted house. Ultimately the county had just taken ownership of it.

The floorboards creaked under his weight making it impossible to keep quiet. If anyone was here then he had already alerted them to his presence.

"What do I owe the pleasure?"

Scott turned on his heel to be met face to face with the man who had started this all. It was because of him that he had become an alpha. For whatever reason, Scott wasn't sure what to feel about that. "Peter," he confirmed and the formerly deceased alpha grinned.

"You're looking for me? I'm honored." he teased.

Scott sighed, "well you know what they say. Speak of the devil and he shall appear."

Peter laughed, amused rather than insulted. "Let's not be cliche, Scott. You want something? Just ask."

"You know something about Eleanor Paxton?"

The surprise at hearing the name lasted only a second as Peter skillfully played his cards. "Haven't heard that name since... Laura. My niece had a soft spot for the girl."

He laughed tantalizingly and Scott ground his teeth together. He was stupid to think Peter would tell him anything without getting something in return. It's how he worked. "What do you want?"

Peter cocked his head, "You don't have anything I want."

The smug look on his face faltered as Scott's eyes flashed red. Instinctively Peter's own eyes glowed a piercing blue in response. "Then you'll get nothing, but you'll tell me what you know about her either way."

An apprehensive grin appeared on the omegas face as he held his hands up in surrender. "Fine, fine. You're the big bad wolf now. You're calling the shots."

"No," Scott denied "I'm the alpha."

He took a few steps forward and Peter took the same amount of steps back. Again he was being oppressed by a teenage boy who had taken his rightful power. For now, he would have to submit.

"I'm glad you're embracing it," Peter said through clenched teeth, his back pressed up against the banister.

"Just tell me what you know so we can both stop pretending like we both don't want to hurt each other right now." Oh, how Peter really did want to hurt him. Badly.

With feigned amusement he began, "The Hale's have protected her family for years and in turn they did us service." he said. "There are very few of her kind left in the world. If people get wind of her existence then you can consider her dead." Scott looked to his feet and back to Peter, heeding the warning.

"So you know what she is then?"

He nodded his head. "I, among a remaining few. Not even Derek got to know this trade family secret. He was naive and a teenager." he spat the last word out as if it was bitter on his tongue. "My sister, Talia, kept it from him. She trusted me back then, just enough to tell me. Laura was going to be running the pack one day which got her in on it too."

"But then you killed her." Scott cut in.

"Well as they say," Peter teased mocking Scott from earlier. "Two can keep a secret if one of them is dead."

The alpha could feel the disgust rising in his gut. "Just tell me what you know."

"Eleanor is descended from a long line of supernatural beings. She inherited it from her mother's side. Her grandfather was just like her."
