I S A B E L L A

"You have a father. And four brothers"

The words ringed in my head over and over again. I couldn't wrap my head around the fact the my father and brothers had been looking  for me.

Detective Ryder told me that I could go back to my house since it would take my father a few hours to get here.

I stared blankly at my phone screen, as my shoes padded softly on the concrete.

I swallowed hard.

Axel was still out there. No one knew where he was. Probably because he had connections with the underground.

I walked on the familiar sidewalk, there were no cars passing by. It was quiet— peaceful, a stark contrast to the inferno that was burning in my head.

A few minutes later, I see the familiar house at the distant, the one I left and thought I'd never come back but I guess the universe had other plans.

_____

The moment I stepped into the house, I scanned my surroundings. Everything was the same as when I had left except for the shattered glass on the floor.

My stomach twisted with queasiness.

This place was the place I dreaded to be but now the monsters that were my uncle and Aunt in disguise were gone. One dead. The other missing.

I felt relived and afraid at the same time, the fact that they couldn't get to me anymore was the most relived I've ever felt but there was a possibility that Axel won't let me go so easily.

I set my bag down on the kitchen counter and took a deep breath. I took a broom and cleared the shards of glass and threw them away. I don't know why I did it, maybe it was out of a habit. But it distracted me from the overwhelming feeling in my head.

After cleaning up, I plopped onto the couch and switched on my phone.

I felt my heart stutter when I saw Dante's name.

I tapped on his name, in an instant the screen was filled with his concerned messages. Guilt surged through me.
