It was the night of his birthday, the night you two spent together. The night you found out Tomura was Tenko.
The room was dim, lit only by the faint glow of the moonlight spilling through the curtains. The world outside had long gone quiet, but inside, everything felt safe. Warm. Still.
Until Tenko had woke up with a jolt.
His heart was pounding. Same old nightmare, blood on his hands, his home and family crumbling, you fading from his reach. For a moment, he just stared at the ceiling, trying to ground himself in the quiet hum of the night.
Then he felt you beside him. Your hand was resting lightly on his chest, your breath warm and steady against his skin.
And then softly, almost like a sigh he heard you mutter.
"...Her name would be Emi..."
Tenko blinked.
He turned slowly, wondering if he'd imagined it. But your eyes were still closed. You were dead asleep, mumbling under your breath with a tiny smile on your lips.
"She'd have your eyes... messy hair... maybe a little attitude..."
Tenko stared at you like you were a dream and a punch to the chest at the same time.
"What?" He whispered, stunned.
You shifted a little, face turned into the pillow, completely unaware of the emotional earthquake you'd just caused in his chest.
"And if it's a boy... maybe Haru... or Shin... he'd be stubborn like you..."
Tenko couldn't help but let a small laugh escaped him.
"Oh my god," He whispered. "You're naming our kids in your sleep?"
You hummed contentedly, completely unaware of how red his face had gotten. "They'd have... cute little shoes... and you'd carry them on your shoulders... like a hero..."
Tenko's throat went dry.
He couldn't speak. Could barely breathe. He had been seconds away from spiraling into a panic, but now he just lay there watching the love of his life talk about a future you didn't even know he believed in.
Quietly, gently, he leaned in close, pressing a soft kiss to your temple.
"You really think I'd be good at that?" He whispered, voice breaking just a little. "You think I could be a dad...?"
You only murmured something soft, half sigh, half sleepy hum. But your hand gripped his shirt slightly tighter.
And Tenko, the man who once believed he'd destroy everything he loved, let himself imagine it for the first time:
Tiny shoes by the front door. Messy-haired kids with sleepy eyes and your smile. A world where he was allowed to stay. A world where he didn't have to carry so much on his shoulders.
He closed his eyes and pulled you closer.
"I'd screw it up," He muttered. "I know I would. But I'd try. I swear, I'd try so hard."
Your hand twitched gently against his chest, as if responding to him even in sleep. And he, felt something cave in his chest, "You'd be the one holding it all together. I'd just... carry him on my shoulders and pretend I'm the cool parent."
A pause.
Then, quieter, barely above a whisper, "I want that. I really want that. With you."
