Author’s POV-

The next morning, as both sets of parents were preparing to leave the house, Trayambak suddenly requested them to stay a little longer. Dhimahi’s parents politely declined, citing prior commitments, and soon departed for their home. However, Trayambak’s parents reluctantly agreed to stay back. Despite knowing their son values his privacy—especially now that Dhimahi is pregnant and the couple needs time alone—they honored his insistence.

Trayambak left for the office with his father.

While Trinetra was resting in her room, Dhimahi and Dhanay decided to take a walk in the garden. The air was crisp, sunlight gently filtering through the trees—an ideal moment for calm. But inside the house, something sinister brewed.

Sensing the opportunity, Nayanika quietly tiptoed toward Trinetra’s room. As she turned the knob, the faint creak of the door stirred Trinetra from her nap. Her eyelids fluttered open, hazy from sleep, but alert.

Just then, Nayanika pulled a syringe from her waistband—its sharp tip glinting under the soft light. She was about to approach when footsteps echoed in the hallway. It was Dhanay.

Startled, Nayanika quickly hid the syringe behind her back. Her face contorted for a fleeting second before she forced a sweet smile.

"Thoda milne aayi thi beta, bas yeh jaldi theek ho jaaye,"
["I just came to visit for a bit, dear. I hope she recovers soon,"]
she said, brushing Trinetra’s forehead with feigned affection.

Dhanay gave her a gentle nod.
"Aap chinta mat kariye, Noor jald hi theek ho jaayegi."
["Don’t worry, Noor will get better soon."]

Nayanika gave him a nod before silently retreating from the room. Dhanay sat beside Trinetra, who looked visibly unsettled. Her eyes held a silent storm—words trapped behind the invisible bars of her mind. Dhanay felt the shift in the air but couldn't place his finger on it.

Time passed.

Eventually, Dhanay stood up.
"I'm going to take a bath, Noor."

He walked toward the bathroom, unaware that the moment he left would invite darkness back into the room.

As soon as she was alone again, Nayanika re-entered like a shadow. With no time to lose, she injected the drug into Trinetra’s arm. A thin gasp escaped Trinetra’s lips as her body began to go numb. Leaning down, Nayanika whispered venomously in her ear:

"Tujhe theek hona hai na? Bohot sapne dekh liye the tune, nahi? Lekin tere yeh sapne… sapne hi reh jaayenge. And I’ll make sure of it."
["You want to get better, don’t you? You dreamed too much, didn’t you? But those dreams… they’ll remain just that. And I’ll make sure of it."]

Suddenly, the bathroom door creaked open. Dhanay stepped out shirtless.

The moment he saw Nayanika, his eyes widened in surprise.
"Sorry aunty… woh main towel lena bhool gaya tha."
["Sorry, aunty… I forgot to bring a towel."]

Nayanika froze. Her expression shifted slightly. For a split second, the warmth in her smile faded, replaced by unease. Dhanay noticed the change. And though his mind screamed that something was wrong, how could he question her? She was Trinetra’s mother.

Still, his instincts urged him to stay. He pretended to fumble through a drawer for the towel—though he already knew exactly where they were kept. His eyes stayed on Trinetra, who lay still, her eyes silently begging, yet unable to speak.
