Chapter 14: Continued

The next day at work I was typing away when I heard the door out in the hall open and slam shut. I passed my typing for a moment straining to hear any footsteps. When I didn't hear any I just shrugged my shoulders and typed as fast as I could so I could get out of this empty and creepy office.

I kept relaying in my mind that there was no such thing as ghosts and that Blake had flown back to New York this morning. It was probably a crafty cat that pushed open one of the twin doors. For a moment this logic soothed me; Until my door knob started to turn.

I did the only logical thing a grown man who was alone in a haunted office could do. I turned off my screen and hid under my desk. The door opened and I heard a footstep and a pause. The person slightly stepped out of my office into the hallway and paused while still holding my door open.

The man in the shiny black loafers walked into my office and looked around a bit and then sat at a chair in front of my desk. I decided that maybe this wasn't an intruder but one of dads clients. So I took a deep breath and popped up, quite fast I must say, which in turn startled the man as he jumped and let out a short gasp.

"Sorry! I didn't know you were coming by. What are you doing here?" I asked as I sat back down.

"Well I was going to visit and see how things were until you decided to play hide-and-seek without me knowing. Jeez, do you always do that to visitors?" Jackson asked and he regained his composure.

"I thought you were a ghost. You didn't make any noise coming down the hall. What are you, Like the phantom of construction buildings?" I asked.

"Kinda. Nah, seriously, what's up? Y'know we haven't really talked since-"

"You bailed on me for your... Friend?"

"I guess I deserved that."

"Yeah. You did. But nothing major has been going on with me." I lied.

"Cool. So, I guess I should explain myself a little. My job is pretty much 24/7. I'm an entrepreneur and sometimes random stuff just comes up at the most inopportune moments. A huge project I am working on is under wraps right now and some rat tried to out it before the big reveal."

Whose says rat anymore? I thought.

"Anyway. I had to go and talk to this person and remind him that he was under a strict confidentiality agreement."

I just nodded along not really believing in what he was saying. Okay, I do believe that he was an entrepreneur, but that didn't excuse the fact that he ran out on me and humiliated me for over an hour as I sat there looking like a loser.

"Well, uhm, thanks for telling me that." I said awkwardly not really knowing how to respond to his excuse.

"Look, Jamie, I really like you. Can we try this again?" He asked.

"Jacks, we've tried it and it hasn't worked out. I'm sorry but our paths just cross once every hundred miles or so."

"Come on, Jamie. Don't  be like that. My life is unpredictable right now, but it will all be regular nine-to-five after this deal closes. Just don't give up so easy."

"That's rich coming from you." I snapped.

"Nice, Jamie, real nice. Always playing the victim. Well you know what, when you're done with your whole "the world is out to get me," self-hatred bullshit, come find me."

Jackson let out a sad sigh and turned and walked out the door without looking back. I sat in my chair motionless but decided that what happened was for the best. I wasn't going to let another man make my world revolve around him. I needed to figure myself out first before I tried to let another person in my life.

So, with that new declaration of my unofficial new years resolution, I got started on finishing my work while thinking of new plot ideas and characters for my first graphic novel.

Hey guys. I haven't been posting because I haven't had any inspiration. I usually pull inspiration from real life scenarios that I imagine while I zone out in school or at random places, at random times.

So hopefully tomorrow at school I can imagine some new stuff and write them down.
