Chapter One

The night was very calm and pleasant and the moon's reflection was shown very clearly through a puddle on the road. I was at home and was having a small recap of things that weren't suppose to happen. Just then my train of thoughts were interrupted when my phone rang, it was my best friend Luvlin, she is the one with whom I share all my secrets and she knows me in and out thoroughly. I am very short tempered when she's around she always tries to keep me happy and tries to keep me away from my haunting past."Hey! Luv, so what's up tonight?,"I asked in an excited tone."Hey! Muskaan, I am in a party in the town hall, why don't you come and join me", she said. I couldn't put down the offer and so, I looked up at the clock and it was 8:00 p.m and so I decided to go to the party."Wait there for me , I'll be there in 10 minutes", I said as I hurried to my room to get ready for the party.

I wore a red dress with a black laced belt. I picked my keys from the living room table and headed towards the door. I locked the house door behind me. I started the car and reached the party in no time."Luv, come outside to the parking lot", I said, so that I would have someone to accompany me inside. We entered inside and saw bright lights flickering continuously to the beat of the song that the DJ was playing. The music was so loud and people were dancing on the dance floor, some people who didn't know how to dance just enjoyed themselves by jumping and swinging their hands from left to right. Luvlin got lost in the crowd and so I was left alone for a little while. I don't drink, and so I just went and ordered an orange juice for myself. While I was waiting for the order, a guy with brown hair and green eyes approached me , "Hey! Muskaan its been a long time since we met. How are you? How's life?", He said with an unusual smirk plastered on his face. I was still in a state of shock 'cause I didn't know who he really was and how he knew my name. He was talking to me as though we knew each other for years."I am sorry but, do I know you?", I asked him in a rather confused tone."Never mind you'll recognize me when time comes", was all that he said and left me there contemplating who he was. Just then the bartender gave my order and I took it. I started looking around for Luvlin and then suddenly I found her sitting in one corner of the room and talking with some guy.

I excused myself from the crowd and walked over to her. She then introduced me to her friend , Zayn with whom she seemed to be having an interesting conversation, "Muskaan meet Zayn he is my friend from the US and he has come to visit his sister who is gonna have a baby. And Zayn this is Muskaan she is my best friend", she said. "Well, hello Muskaan, pleased to meet you", he said with a huge smile and he held out his hand for a shake. I shook his hand and said, "Hi Zayn , pleased to meet you too". Luvlin and I both love traveling and so is Zayn. He was sharing his experience around the world. We spoke for hours and time passed so fast. Just then I got a phone call from my hospital, and went out to talk as it was very noisy inside, "Dr.Muskaan there's an emergency, please come to the hospital immediately", Mrs.Richards, the receptionist said. "Okay, I am coming", I said as I rushed back inside to tell them that I had to rush 'cause of an emergency at the hospital. I hugged Luvlin and Zayn and waved them goodbye as I headed out excusing myself from all the people who never got tired dancing and jumping endlessly to the music that was playing in the background.

I started the car and headed to the hospital where I work. I reached the hospital in no time and rushed inside. Mrs.Richards was busy talking on the phone and so I waited for her to end the call and when she finally hung up I asked her about the emergency case, "Doctor you'll have to go to the Major OT, Dr. Edward and Dr.Stephanie are waiting for you", she said. I thanked Mrs.Richards and headed to the major OT. I saw Dr.Edward and Dr.Stephanie through the glass door which lead to the OT. "Hello, Doctor we have a very serious problem here, this young guy Bradley met with an accident and he's lost a lot of blood",Dr.Edward said."What's his blood group", I asked."A1+ve", he said. "We have that blood group in our hospital, don't we?", I asked as I crossed by fingers and hoped for the best. "I am afraid but, we don't have that blood group in our hospital right now and it's 12:00 a.m how are we even supposed to find a donor", Dr.Edward said in a rather frustrated tone. Only then did I realize that I was O+ve and so I could donate him blood."Doctor I am O+ve, I can donate a unit or two for him", I said as I finally found a solution. Just then I could see the nurse running towards us, "Umm...... Doctor.....err, the patient..... I guess you should come and see", she said. We ran back to the OT and saw that by the time we could decide anything to save him he already had given up. And the feeling that we could save him if we only decided a bit earlier kept killing me inside. "I guess this was all we could do", Dr. Edward said in a disappointed tone."No, we could do better", I said him as I left the hospital and headed to home.

Even though I handled many cases, losing a life was always like I was handling a first one. I stood there in the parking lot of the hospital thinking what to do. I was very disappointed with myself and so I called Luvlin, only she could cheer me up. "Hello, Luvlin where are you?", I asked screaming on top of my voice 'cause there was a lot of noise and she couldn't hear me. I assumed that she was in the party yet and hung up and sent her a text message.

Me:- Call me when you get back home.

I drove back home and parked the car into the garage and closed the shutter. As I was unlocking the door I saw a young man around in his 20's dancing from left to right, he was obviously drunk. He was wearing a white T-shirt and a black jacket with black boots, a hat and sunglasses. As I tried to avoid and get in, I heard him shouting in pain, I turned around and saw that he fell on his chest on the pavement and the lower body on the road. "Are you okay?", I asked him as I went closer to help him. He was hardly able to speak 'cause he had fallen very badly. I took him inside the home and made him sit on my bed, "You lie down I'll get you some medicine", I said as I rushed back to the living room to get him medicine. When I found one and came back to my room he had already fallen asleep and so without disturbing him I just left the room and sat in my living room.

I looked at the clock and it was 2:30 a.m, I switched on my laptop and started reading my pending case histories. I kept working till 4:30 a.m, when suddenly my room's doorknob turned.
