Kabanata 30: Ang Star City Date

"Sige," sabi ni Kenji, ang mga mata niya ay nagniningning sa tuwa. "Pero tatawagan mo ako araw-araw! At bukas, magpasyal tayo. Maybe sa Star City? Tara after ng klase at practice mo para sa Mr. Sportsfest, okay?"

Mark hesitated, "May work ako eh, mamaya pa ako makaka-alis ng cafe."

Kenji's face fell. He pouted, his lower lip jutting out in a dramatic display of disapproval. "Hmp. Ang daya mo naman. Sige na, please?"

"Hindi talaga pwede bukas," sabi ni Mark, "pero pwede tayong magkita sa Sabado. Sa Star City na lang, kung gusto mo."

"Sige na nga," Kenji said, trying to hide his disappointment. "Pero promise, tatawagan kita bukas ah? Para ma-miss mo ako." He winked playfully.

"Oo na, oo na," Mark said, chuckling. He shook his head, wondering what he had gotten himself into. "Ikaw talaga, Kenji."

"Seryoso ako, Mark," Kenji said, his voice softening slightly. "Gusto ko lang makasama ka. And to be honest, nanghihinayang ako na hindi kita kasama sa practice."

Mark smiled, feeling a warmth spread through him. "We can practice together later this week," he said. "Maybe I can give you some pointers."

"Talaga?" Kenji asked, his eyes widening. "Ikaw magtuturo sa akin? Wow! Ang galing mo naman pala magturo."

"I'm not that bad," Mark said, a bit embarrassed. "I just know a few tricks. And besides," he added playfully, "mas magaling ka sa akin, so I might learn something from you too."

"Okay, okay, you're right," Kenji said, laughing. "I'm the best! But seriously, Mark, thank you for being my fake boyfriend. It means a lot to me."

Mark felt a wave of warmth wash over him. "Don't worry about it," he said. "Just remember what we agreed on: focus on your studies. I'll help you with volleyball, and we'll have fun."

"You won't regret this, Mark," Kenji said, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. "I'll be the best fake boyfriend you've ever had."

Mark raised an eyebrow. "Oh yeah? That's a challenge," he said, unable to help but smile back. He had a feeling this "fake" relationship was going to be a lot more complicated than he initially thought.
