Dhimahi's POV

After making love to me, Trayambak left for his office. And just like that, the vacuum returned. He gave me my phone back-finally. The first thing I did was dial Dhanay's number. Again, no answer. It's been over a week since we talked. My chest tightened with worry. I tried calling him again... still nothing.

I kept my phone on the bedside table and stared blankly at the ceiling.

Why isn't he picking up? Why isn't Trayambak listening to me? I just hope... my brother is okay.

My thoughts were spiraling when suddenly the phone rang. My heart leapt-I thought it was Dhanay. But it was Trayambak.

"Hello?"

"Baby," he said.

"Ji boliye." ["Yes, tell me."]

"Wo aaj shaam ko mom-dad aa rahe hain dinner ke liye..." ["So, mom and dad are coming for dinner tonight..."] he started, "They'll be leaving for the U.S. for about a year for business purpose, so they want to meet us before that."

"Acha! Theek hai, main kuch achha khana bana lungi unke liye." ["Oh okay! I'll cook something nice for them."]

"Baby, mujhe tumhe bas inform karna tha. Lekin tumhe khud banana hai toh theek hai... I always love eating you... and your food." ["Baby, I just wanted to inform you. But if you want to cook, fine... I always love eating you... and your food."]

"Sharam nahi aati aapko?" ["Aren't you ashamed?"] I blushed, but played along.

"Biwi se kaisi sharam? Aur agar biwi itni khoobsurat ho, toh usse flirt karne mein kya burai?" ["Why should I be shy with my wife? And if the wife is this beautiful, what's wrong in flirting with her?"]

"Trayambak, kaam pe dhyan dijiye biwi pe nahi." ["Trayambak, focus on your work, not your wife."] I teased.

"Ji sahiba, kaam se aa kar biwi pe hi dhyan dunga." ["Yes, my queen. Once I'm back from work, I'll focus only on my wife."] I could almost hear his smirk.

"Bye baby, love you."

"Love you too," I replied.

I waited the whole afternoon for Dhanay's call. Nothing. Not a message, not a ring. The anxiety felt like a tight knot in my stomach.

Evening crept in, and I focused on preparing dinner-something to distract myself. I made biryani, naan, reshmi chicken, and shahi paneer for mom since she's vegetarian. For dessert-gajar ka halwa. That should be enough. Cooking has always been my thing-I've gotten more compliments for it than anything else in life.

Soon, my in-laws arrived.

I greeted them and touched their feet to take their blessings.

"Kaisi hai beta?" ["How are you, dear?"] mom asked.

"Main theek hoon mom, aap dono kaise ho?" ["I'm fine, mom. How are you both?"]

"Hum bhi bohot acche hai, beta." ["We're doing great, dear."]

"Trayambak kaha hai beta?" ["Where is Trayambak, dear?"] Dad asked, eyes searching for him.

Honestly, had Trayambak never told me Lochan uncle wasn't his biological father, I wouldn't have guessed. The love between them was too deep, too real.

"Dad, unko thoda time lagega." ["Dad, he'll take a little time."]

"Yeh nalayak abhi tak nahi sudhra." ["This useless boy hasn't changed one bit."] Mom scolded playfully. "Akeli biwi ko ghar chhod ke poora din office mein padha rehta hai. Maine socha tha shaadi ke baad biwi ke liye jaldi ghar aayega... lekin yeh toh apne dad se bhi aage nikal gaya." ["He leaves his wife all alone and stays at work all day. I thought marriage would bring him home earlier... but he's become worse than his dad."]
