Escaping a dinner with Hiei's new roommate felt wrong. Was she being a bitch for refusing to get to know a guy? She partially felt like she was. But also, she didn't owe them anything so why should she care? It's not like that whole Elaris was longing to meet her for weeks. He probably heard one or two things about her and was as much as completely neutral about her persona.
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ She sighed quietly, propping her head on her palm, her eyes feeling heavy. As much as she would've loved to pay attention to the lecture about witches, all the words were slipping in through one ear and out through the other. Studying till the very morning truly got her at the world's mercy.
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ At least it gave her good enough of an excuse to not visit Hiei with Lior. Again, she felt bad for letting her best friend sit all awkward with the guy she was clearly uneasy about but she had her boyfriend there so how bad could it really be?

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ A tap of a pen on her shoulder shook her back into reality. She jolted to sit up straight and looked over at the boy sitting next to her with a questioning look.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ "Sorry." He whispered with a kind smile, tilting his head. "You look like you need caffeine."

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ "I'd die for a coffee now." She admitted quietly, rubbing one of her eyes. She wasn't that big on caffeine actually. Decaf and tea were much more pleasant in her opinion.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ But a drowning man holds onto a knife.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ The boy next to her only moved a little bag of latte colored candy closer to her, offering her some with a little smile. Was it smart to take sweets from strangers? Not at all. But she was in the middle of a long lecture and about to pass out. And now she was offered sugar and caffeine. It sounded like a dream come true.
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ As she grabbed one of the small lozenges and slipped it between her lips, her new friend swiftly put the rest of them back into his bag. He didn't seem too invested into Mena's reaction, which partially erased all her worries. But a sliver of paranoia was always there.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ "Honey, milk and a lot of caffeine." He whispered with his gaze turned back to the professor on the other end of the class. "They're absolute lifesavers if you ask me."

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ "Mhm, I might be forced to agree." She nodded, fixing herself in the seat.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ She wasn't used to people sitting so close to her. The lecture wasn't that busy and the class was pretty big so most people favored their own personal space unless they knew each other well. And Mena didn't know a single person there.
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ If she recalled correctly, the girls sitting in front of her were studying economics and the boy in the very first row was studying English literature. grabbing a faculty was pretty much dooming yourself into meeting new people.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ "I'm Jesper, by the way." The boy reached out his hand to Mena, looking at her again with that pretty and kind smile.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ "Mena." She politely shook his hand before turning back to the blackboard.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Sure she was going to be polite, he just saved her from the misery of falling asleep in the very uncomfortable class seat. But her politeness was not to be mistaken for interest. Pretty smile and one kind gesture were definitely not enough to make her swoon. And she knew damn well that was exactly what he was aiming for.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"'Kill or be killed' should be the motto you all carry deep within your souls..." The professor continued in that voice filled with passion and excitement.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ "Are you actually trying to listen?"

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ "Well, aren't you interested in hexing people?" She raised an eyebrow, giving him a quick look before turning her eyes back at the words on the board. "Why choose a class you won't care about?"

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ "I just needed bonus points. All that matters is that I'm here." She noticed him shrug. Oh right, because that was so attractive, mr.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ "Cool." She muttered, resting her chin on top of her palms, already uninterested in the conversation.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ It's not that she needed a guy with big ambitions and great interests in all the most prestigious topics but she really couldn't be bothered with paying attention to a boy who can't even respect someone else's time during a lecture. She actually enjoyed the topics and he was very clearly about to bash on them for no reason. So again, why bother?

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ "Auch, already getting a cold shoulder." Jesper chuckled quietly, leaning slightly closer to Mena. "Did I offend you?"

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ "No, you simply bore me." She didn't even spare him a look before moving a few inches away with a swift slide.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ "Harsh... I kinda like that."

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ She didn't respond, knowing that no matter what she would say, he would find a way to turn it into something "banter like" and flirty. Her silence seemed to work wonders though. Or perhaps it was the man who sat next to Jesper that distracted him enough to completely lose track of his lines.
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ He didn't say anything. He simply switched seats a row up, placing himself uncomfortably close to Jesper. Mena didn't pay that much attention to either of them, but the cold beaming from the man was felt all the way in her area which was rather... Intriguing. So she took a little peek.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Sharp jawline, tired eyes and dark, soft hair in such perfect length she couldn't help but admire it for a split second. He was presenting himself broody and cold. A hint of mystery carried with his persona. Something she could appreciate in a person.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Something calm and quiet.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ And under all that coldness - a little shy.
