Later that week, Ling was stuck in the office late, finishing up some final reports for the end of the quarter. She had just settled into the grind when she heard a soft knock at her cubicle.
"Ling? You in there?" Orm's voice broke through her concentration, and for a moment, Ling thought she might pass out from the shock.
"Uh, yeah, I'm here," Ling managed, her voice cracking.
Orm peeked around the corner. "I was wondering if you wanted to join us for a team happy hour after work? We're heading to that new bar down the street. You know, the one with the karaoke machine?"
Ling blinked. Orm was inviting her to happy hour?
"I... uh, sure! Yeah, I'll come," Ling said, trying to sound calm but probably failing miserably. Her mind was already racing. What do I wear? How do I act?
Orm smiled. "Great! It'll be fun. See you later."
As Orm walked away, Ling sat frozen in her seat, trying to wrap her mind around the fact that she was going to a social event with Orm. This could either go really well, or terribly wrong.
