Chapter 7: The Mermaid Princess

My eyes wandered all over the giant palace before it landed on it's king who had found us at Pappag's and personally invited us here as thanks for saving a shark that was stuck in the giant Kraken Luffy tamed. I watched as the guards worriedly scolded him for leaving without guards before telling him something in a low tone. Suspicion bubbled inside my chest as I narrowed my eyes at the stolen glances the guards gave us, but it looked like my cremates weren't worried in the slightest.

"Psst," I hear on my left and suddenly there's a hand wrapping around my own. Luffy grins at me mischievously as he tugs on my hand gently, "I smell food. Let's go check it out." He didn't wait for me to decline as he pulled me with a small laugh into our own bubble of air.

I watch with a raised eyebrow as his nose sticks out from the bubble, trying to sniff out where the food is. My lips raise into a small smile as he determines where the source is. Upon his excitement he squeezes my hand that was still in his own and it makes me realize he hasn't let go.

"What huge, thick, solid looking doors," Luffy's voice snaps me out of my thoughts as I look at the giant metal doors in front of us, "These walls look very solid too. They look like the ones in Impel down."

I get up slightly to get a better view, the bubble bouncing up and down slightly with the weight change, "You're right. I wonder why they need such security. Cami said no one ever really comes to Fishman Island." I turn to look back at Luffy just to see him grinning at me. The bubble we were in was only big enough to hold both of us so the sides of our bodies were touching, our hands were still interlocked, and our faces were less than a foot away from each other. I tilted my head at his gleeful expression and lack of words, "What is it?"

He chuckled to himself, his grip on my hand tightening slightly before he spoke happily, "I love going on adventures with you!" Before I could get over the slight shock of hearing his words he jumped at me and engulfed me in a hug making the bubble pop and us land a couple feet away.

We rolled a little due to the momentum and I ended up in between Luffy's legs, my head on his chest and my arms by his side. When I looked up to either scold him or question his behavior he was already laughing, his arms propping himself up behind him and his eyes closed as his joyful laugh rang in my ears.

Whatever words I had prepared for my captain dissipated into thin air and an overwhelming feeling of warmth and comfort flushed my body. It was as if the man in front of me was the embodiment of happiness. I couldn't help but smile despite the envy of wanting to be as happy and carefree as him.

His nose began to twitch suddenly and before I knew it he was dragging me through the metal doors we were examining before. "Come on, Y/n! There's gotta be food in here! This must be the banquet hall."

I let his hand slip out of mine as he jumped into the room landing on something bouncy. Staying at the entrance, I squinted my eyes at the dark room, trying to make out anything other than the large object Luffy was jumping on. He encouraged me to come and join him, but I shook my head, "You shouldn't be playing in rooms of a palace you've never been to, Luffy. You can't even see what you're jumping on."

As if on cue the thing below him starts moving and the lights flip on. I stare in embarrassment and horror as Luffy falls from the now visible breast he was jumping on. The giant figure gets up finally and I ignore Luffy's screams as he falls to the ground.

In front of us, in the now lit room, was a beautiful mermaid sitting on a clam-like bed. She had long, wavy, pink hair that flowed all the way down to her waist and ocean blue eyes that began to water as she asked who we were. Her tail seemed to be almost the same size as the merry with pink and red scales going along it and a pinkish white at the end.
