Sitting on the comfy leather couch as his eyes scanned another undoubtedly boring report his secretary had given to him, Guren heaved a sigh. He ran a hand through his, now, greasy hair and nuzzled himself in the warmth of the thick comforter he stripped from his bed and onto the couch.
The lieutenant momentarily placed the stack of paper on the coffee table and stared at the crackling fire on the hearth in front of his couch. He had still not gotten used to the sudden cold that winter had brought with it. Even if he wore a thick sweater over his black, long-sleeved uniform, the temperature still chilled him to the bone. And his feet were really cold, since he took off his boots to avoid getting bloodstains on his couch.
Earlier, Kureto had ordered Guren to raid a vampire base somewhere in Shinjuku alone. The rest of his squad had relented the Lieutenant General's orders since there was a raging blizzard outside and Kureto had wanted him to go to Shinjuku of all places. The raven-haired man knew that Kureto just wanted to ruin his afternoon. However, since he would prefer going on a suicide mission to Shinjuku rather than to listen to Kureto nag along all day in the meeting hall, Guren decided that he'd give the Hiiragi his satisfaction for now.
He came back to headquarters very much unscathed and Sayuri gave him a very long lecture on how that complying to Kureto's orders was a stupid thing to do in this weather. Guren retorted with "Refusing a superior's orders is even more stupid, Sayuri. I thought you already knew that."
"Damn it," He cussed silently. The temperature dropped even lower and Guren decided to sit near the hearth to warm himself up. He'd even throw himself inside, if he could.
But the male had regretted that decision when his feet touched the marble floor.
He stumbled a bit and accidentally stubbed his toe on the coffee table, knocking over the lamp perched on top of it in the process.
"Fucking hell!" He hissed as he rubbed his toe, trying to ease the unbearable aching.
Guren stared at the lamp, which was in pieces, that was next to him, and groaned. Now he would need to walk all the way to the supply closet since janitors were no longer in duty at this hour.
But Guren was having none of the cold floor against his bare feet anymore. So, he got up, enduring the icy feeling of the ground, and walked towards his closet. He rummaged through his sweaters, shirts and uniforms until he fished out a pair of pink, knitted socks, which was pretty easy since it was so brightly colored
"I can't believe I'm doing this," He said, embarrassed as he put them on, his cold breath, visible.
Since he had knocked over and broke the lamp on his coffee table, the only illumination he had was from the weakening fire of the hearth. The lights in the hallway were already off, since it was really late in the night now. But since his socks were neon, he could still see them in the dark, like they were glowing.
He made a mental note to buy more socks.
A few weeks ago when winter started, Guren complained non-stop about the cold winter. Apparently, one of his squad members, (full name) got fed up with his constant nagging and knitted him a pair of neon pink socks out of dyed sheep wool.
"What the hell, (name)? These are really itchy! If you're going to make me some socks, you might as well make sure they're good!" Guren whined.
Your eye twitched in annoyance and you shoved the other sock that he hasn't put on yet in his mouth. "Shut up, you ungrateful shit. You haven't put both of them on yet! And yes, they're itchy at first but they'll make your feet extremely warm and cozy once you've gotten used to it."
