Chapter Twenty-Two

I didn’t realize he was taking the home until we met up with Ava in the school parking lot.  He retold everything that happened and she quickly handed over her keys. She said she would stay behind and take care of Lacey for us. We agreed and Yuki gently placed me in the backseat.

“Let’s get you home,” he said.

“What about Lacey and Ya-ya?”

“Don’t worry about them.”

Yuki drove me back to his house and assessed the damage to my face.

“Your lip doesn’t look that bad,” he said cleaning away the blood.

“You’re lying,” I said wincing. “It looks awful doesn’t it?”

“No, of course not,” he said.

“Again with the liar?”

“Yeah cuz you’re lying to me. Why can’t you tell me I look ugly and disgusting and like I just got hit by a bus?”

“You don’t look ugly or disgusting. You look great, besides your swollen lip and bruised face.”

“Gee thanks. I feel so much better,” I said sarcastically.

Yuki finished cleaning the blood off my face and moved on to take a look at my stomach.

“Does it hurt?”

“A little.”

“She kicked you?”

“Yup, really hard,” I said replaying the fight in my head. “She knows.”

“What does she know?”

“She knows about the baby,” I said. “That’s why she kicked me.”

“Do you want to get it checked out?”

Ava’s Point-of-View

I waited for about ten minutes before Lacey and Yakira showed up.

“A little late there, Princess,” I said to Lacey.

“Do I know you?” she asked.

“You don’t remember me? I’m hurt.”

“I’m sure you are,” she said.

“Oh little miss smart ass has a smart mouth to match.”

“You got that right,” she said smirking.

Yakira moved towards her car and I stopped her.

“I don’t think so,” I said. “We have some unfinished business.”

“Do we?”

“Yeah. You know my friend Jazmaine right?”

“Of course. The whole school knows her. She’s pretty famous.”

“Great so then you’ll be admitting to beating her up?”

“I’m not going to admit to something I didn’t do,” Yakira said.
