Chapter 13: A Visit From the Institute

The next morning I woke up and stretched. Then I remember what had happened last night. Matt kissed me. I smiled, remembering the feel of his soft lips against mine. Blushing lightly, I grab a silk robe, given to me by Misa, and put it on, walking out of my room and to the kitchen.

"Good morning, Aurora," L said. He was crouching in a chair, sipping coffee with a donut sitting on a plate in front of him.

I smile at him. "Good morning, L. How'd you sleep?"

"I didn't."

I sigh. "Well...I'm sorry..." I say, not knowing what else to say.

L shrugs, getting back to his coffee and donut.

I grab a bowl and pour myself some of Matt's Cap'n Crunch. I begin eating, and the room was silent.

"So did you have a nice time with Matt?" L asks.

"Yeah, I did. We played Bioshock 2," I reply, shoving another bite of cereal in my mouth. I glanced around the kitchen boredly and continued eating.

A few minutes later, a tired looking Light walked in and went to the kitchen. "Good morning..."

"'Morning," L and I reply simultaneously.

He opened the fridge and grabbed a carton of orange juice, pouring himself a glass and taking a sip.

"Why don't you take a seat, Light? We won't hurt you," I say, smirking mentally.

Light sighed as he walked to the table, sitting between me and L.

We all sat in complete silence until our gazes quickly went to the door as we heard knocking. L stood up and walked to the door, opening it.

I got a glance of who it was and ducked down in my seat. It was two officers from the DRI.

"Hello, sir. Have you seen this girl?" one asked, holding up a headshot of me. Luckily they couldn't see me because I was in the dining room, but I could see them.

"No, I haven't seen her. Sorry," L states in a monotone. He closes the door on the officers and sits back down.

I glance at L. "So...what'd they say?"

"They just asked if I have seen you. I told them no," he stated simply.

I sigh in relief. "Thanks L..."

"Don't thank me. Just prove to me that you have enough self-control to refrain from hurting people."

I bite my lip and nod my head slowly. "I'll try my best."

"Good, now that we got that settled, I am going to finish my donut." L picked up the donut with his thumb and index finger, finishing the rest of it's sweet goodness.

I finish off my Cap'n Crunch and stand, putting the bowl in the sink. "I'm going to see Matt," I say to no one in particular.

Light mumbled a "good bye" and L drank more of his coffee. I shrug and walk to the elevator, arriving on his floor and knocking on his door lightly. Hearing no answer from him, I giggle and open his door slowly. I walked in and saw Matt asleep on his bed. He was laying on his stomach with his arm hanging down over the side of his bed. His comforter was pulled up to the bottom of his shoulder blades. An Xbox controller was on the floor in front of his bed, and it looked like he fell asleep playing a game. Blushing at his shirtless state, I tiptoe forward, kissing his forehead. "Matt...wake up," I whisper, shaking him gently.

Matt stirred and opened his eyes slowly. "Aurora...?"

"Yup, it's me, Matt."

He groaned as he slowly sat up, the comforter slipping off of him and falling around him as he stretched his arms above his head. "Sorry I slept in...I had a long night..." he yawns.

I nod. "You were gaming after I went to bed, weren't you?"

Matt nods drowsily. "Yeah, Black Ops."

I smile and sit next to him. "The DRI came. They were looking for me. They probably heard about the arm incident."

Matt frowns. "They came? Here?"

I nod. "Don't worry though. L sent them away. They don't know I'm here...I hope."

Matt finally looks down and realizes he's shirtless. "Oh...I'm not dressed. Aurora, why didn't you tell me?" he asks, jumping out of bed and throwing some jeans and a t-shirt on.

I blush. "I uh didn't notice."

Matt chuckles. "Oh? Why are you blushing?" he asks.

I blush even redder and shake my head. "No reason. I'm not even blushing. It's warm in here."

Matt raises an eyebrow but leans into me and pecks my lips. "It sure is."
