Y/n's POV
Manhattan, NY
Y/ln CapitalIt was a rainy day, and I stared out the window of my office, the city's skyline blurred by streaks of water racing down the glass. My jaw clenched as I gripped the armrest of my chair, replaying the events of the gala over and over in my head.
Co-ownership. Sharing my throne.
The very thought made my stomach twist in frustration. These investors—wealthy, powerful, and calculating—had the audacity to force me into a partnership with a man whose only real asset in this game was his name. Jay-Z wasn't a businessman in the way I was. He had influence, sure, but influence without strategy meant nothing in this world. Meanwhile, I had built Y/ln Ventures from the ground up, proving my worth in every high-stakes deal, every boardroom standoff, every carefully calculated risk. Yet, they had put me on the same level as him.
I exhaled sharply, tapping my fingers against my desk. This wasn't over. They might've announced it to the world as a victory, painting a picture of two moguls coming together for the good of the team, but I knew the truth. This wasn't a partnership—it was a power struggle, and I had no intention of losing.
My phone buzzed on the desk, snapping me out of my thoughts. Talia's name flashed across the screen. I hesitated before answering.
"Yeah?"
"Are you still brooding over this?" she asked, her voice carrying the same sharpness it always did when she knew I was in my head too much.
I scoffed. "I don't brood. I strategize."
Talia laughed dryly. "Uh-huh. And what's the strategy, boss? Stewing in your office while it rains outside like some villain in a movie?"
I rolled my eyes but smirked slightly. "I'm not stewing. I'm just... thinking."
"Thinking about how to take Jay-Z out?"
"You say that like it's a bad thing."
Talia sighed. "Look, I know this isn't what you wanted, but it's done. You have to play the game before you can change the rules. The investors need to see why you should be the sole owner, and that's going to take time."
I leaned back in my chair, rubbing my temple. She was right. As much as I wanted to bulldoze my way to full ownership, this wasn't a fight I could win overnight. I had to be patient. But patience had never been my strong suit.
Still, I wouldn't let them think I was content with this. I had fought too hard for that.
"I need to make some calls," I muttered. "Keep an eye on the media. See how they're spinning this."
Talia sighed. "Got it. Just don't do anything reckless."
"No promises."
I hung up, exhaling slowly as I glanced out the window again. The rain hadn't let up, and the city continued moving below me, oblivious to the war brewing in my mind.
This wasn't over. Not by a long shot.
As I continued staring out at the rain-soaked skyline, the sound of my television buzzed in the background, filling the silence in my office. I hadn't bothered to turn it off after leaving it on earlier—it was just another news channel rehashing the same story.
"A shocking turn of events in the sports and business world today, as billionaire moguls Y/n Y/ln and Jay-Z have been announced as co-owners of the Brooklyn Nets. The high-profile investors' decision to split the ownership between the two has created a storm of speculation. Will these two titans of industry be able to work together, or is this just the beginning of a power struggle?"
