MARCUS HASTINGS
The doctor's words replayed in my head.
"She's stable enough to be transferred to a private room by tomorrow."
It should have been good news.
Luca had exhaled for the first time in what felt like forever, his shoulders sagging as if he had finally been freed from an invisible weight crushing his chest. He didn't say anything, but I saw it, the way his hands stopped trembling, the way his breath no longer came in shallow bursts. For the first time since we arrived at the hospital, Luca looked like he could breathe.
Domain, on the other hand, barely reacted. Not anger. Not relief. Something worse.
Desperation.
Leonardo?
He hadn't moved an inch since stepping into the ICU to see her.
He just stood there, frozen in place, his jaw clenched so tightly I thought it might shatter. He hadn't spoken. Hadn't acknowledged any of us.
If Luca could breathe again, if Domain was barely holding himself together, then Leonardo was something else entirely.
Unraveling.
I checked my watch.
4:07 PM.
Still no sign of Kendric.
I dialed his number again.
No answer.
A muscle in my jaw ticked as frustration gnawed at me. I turned to Marco, who had been standing a few feet away, his expression unreadable.
"Where the hell is Kendric?"
I asked, my voice sharper than I intended.
Marco opened his mouth, about to answer.
And then I saw him.
Walking towards us.
His head was hung low, his usual lively presence replaced by something hollow.
Kendric moved like a ghost. Like the weight of the world had settled on his shoulders, pressing him into the ground.
And when he finally lifted his head, my stomach twisted.
Lifeless.
That was the only way to describe his eyes.
Drained of every ounce of warmth.
My heart clenched painfully.
What happened to my younger brother?
His gaze landed on me first.
No reaction. No relief. No recognition. Just... nothing.
But then,
His eyes shifted to Leonardo.
And something inside him snapped.
His lifeless eyes darkened into something dangerous.
Without hesitation, Kendric moved.
Fast.
Straight toward Leonardo.
Leonardo didn't react at first. He was still staring at the floor, lost in whatever hell his own mind had trapped him in.
But the second Kendric's voice shattered the silence, the entire hallway froze.
"Why are you here? "
Leonardo slowly looked up.
