Tyrant King,

I warned you that you would lose someone close to you. Tomorrow is your last day alive. Make it your best.

The Prince of Assassins

Valerio then flew back to our kingdom.

“Are you sure you want this, Derek?” he asked.

“He killed my father. He deserves to suffer.”

“Maybe so, but not like this.”

“He will die the next morning.”

Valerio then gave me saddened eyes.

“Are you sure you want this? To become like him?”

“Don’t ever compare me to him.” I growled.

The next morning James was at our castle door. He was alone and begged to be let in. he claimed to have no weapons and even showed that he was unarmed. The decision was made for me to decide. I let him in and told Annika to stay out of sight. We met in our meeting room.

“What is the meaning of this?” Mother asked.

“I need help.”

“You don’t deserve our help. Not after what you didn’t to my husband.”

“I need to find this assassin.” James demanded.

“You already have.” I said, darkly.

He then turned and my blades met his throat.

I woke up from the dream and wished that it was real. Annika was curled next to me and sleeping peacefully. I could make out the first few rays of sunlight peeking over the horizon and decided to get a few extra hours of sleep. James would probably notice that his beloved wife was dead now and coming here. I fell back asleep and when I awoke, Annika was on the floor vomiting. I jumped out of the bed and ran to her.

“Are you all right?” I asked concerned.

“I don’t know.” She said before vomiting again.

I held her as she did and tried using my healing power to help her, but it didn’t work. When she was down she crawled back into bed without much strength, so I had to help her. When I got out of my bedroom, Damon was running down the hall.
“Damon what’s going on?”

“My father and your mother are calling a meeting decide what to do about the assassin. Hurry up and get dressed.”

I then did what he said and got dressed. I then told Annika that I would be back in a little bit with a broth for her. She then said very weakly.

“Tell me you love me.”

“I love you. So much, Annika.”

I then went to the court where only the most important meeting were held and decided on the fate of the assassin.

“He killed James’s queen and now he is coming here to kill us all.” Indigo told everyone.

“That we can’t be sure of.”

“We have to do something about it. this can’t go on!” a duke shouted.

The decision was then directed to me.

“I believe Derek should decide the fate of the assassin.” Richard announced.

“Derek? He’s too young to make this kind of decision he is not a king yet.” A count accused.

“But it is his kingdom and he is Henry’s son.” Richard argued. “What do you think is best for this kingdom, the war, and this assassin?”

I then stood up from my seat. It felt odd having all these people look up to me for a life or death situation. I couldn’t admit I was the assassin, but I wanted this war to end.

“I believe that this war needs to be finished first. Then we can hunt the assassin. If he strikes again after the war is over. We will hunt him down.”

Everyone seemed pleased with my decision and Mother dismissed the meeting. I stopped at the galley to have the cooks prepare a broth for Annika. What they gave me was an herbal broth for her. There was no meat as she would be upset that she was fed meat. When I returned, she was fast asleep, curled into a ball. I set the broth on the nightstand next to her and Valerio then landed on the balcony, hard, as if he was in a hurry.

“Derek, get on the saddle.”

“What’s going on, Valerio?”

“It’s time I showed you this.”

“What?”

“Just get on.”

I get on the saddle and he took off in a hurry. He was beginning to pant from the speed he was going. He was flying to the High Mountains. I should have brought a cloak for warmth. He was flying to the top of the highest mountain. Under the snow at the peak, I could make out a cave. He then flew in and shook the snow from his wings and body.

“Derek, while here you must be respectful. I was not raised as these members of my species.”

“Species?” I asked.

He then went through a rock wall and I was in a dragon kingdom.
