Sanya should’ve felt victorious. She didn’t lose—but she didn’t win either.

She had never tied with anyone before. Ever.

And the worst part? Rudra didn’t even look surprised.

As they walked back to class, students whispered around them, their rivalry now the hottest topic fir gossiping in school.

“You’re taking this way too seriously,” Naina whispered as they took their seats.

Sanya scoffed, opening her notebook. “He challenged me first. I’m just putting him back in his place.”

“Uh-huh.” Naina smirked. “And is that why you’ve been stealing glances at him since morning?”

Sanya’s grip on her pen tightened. “I don’t—”

“Miss Verma.”

Sanya froze. The deep voice that interrupted her was not the teacher’s.

Slowly, she looked up.

Rudra stood beside her desk, his blazer unbuttoned, his sleeves rolled up lazily. His presence was impossible to ignore.

He placed his hands on her desk and leaned in slightly, voice low. “Congratulations, topper.”

Sanya straightened. “Same to you.”

His lips curved into a slow smirk. “You look stressed. Was the tie that hard to accept?”

She smiled sweetly. “Not at all. I’m just thinking about how to defeat you next time.”

Rudra chuckled, shaking his head. “See, that’s the thing about you, Verma. You always think you’ll win.”

“And you think I won’t?” she challenged.

He tilted his head, eyes glinting with something unreadable. “I think… you’re going to lose in a way you never expected.”

Her breath hitched slightly, but she refused to back down. “We’ll see.”

Rudra let out a soft laugh and walked back to his seat. But before sitting, he turned to look at her once more.

“Oh, and Verma?”

She met his gaze, her heartbeat unsteady.

“Don’t fall for me.”

The class broke into gasps and giggles. But Sanya?

Sanya swore she’d never let that happen.

…So why did her heart race anyway?
