“Kids, the power of an engagement ring is something of a mystery…you should ask your father about his time wearing his one, but for your uncle Seokjin.. Well..”

“I'm telling you, there was a beer bottle under the fridge” Namjoon spoke across the booth table to Taehyung, who sat there eating some overly salted fries.

“Did you get it? Were you able to?..” Taehyung furrowed his eyebrows as he playfully glared at the other. “..did you call dibs on it?”

“I did indeed call dibs on it before Seokjin could” Namjoon replied with a smile.

“Darn it..” Taehyung sighed. “I wanted to call dibs on it” He pouted.

“Too bad Taehyung” Namjoon shook his head and then watched as Seokjin walked into the bar and watched as he sat himself down next to him in the booth.

“Those kids are demons,” Seokjin groans. “I don't know how their parents deal with it..”

“By sending them to you” Taehyung replied with a small smirk to hold back his laughter.

“Rude..but true” Seokjin nodded in defeat. “Anyway, what were you two talking about before I sat down?” He asked.

“The beer bottle I saw under the fridge while we were-”

“I don't need detail, but yes we were talking about that and now Namjoon called dibs on it” Taehyung gave a pointed look at Namjoon before looking back to Seokjin with a shrug.

“You didn't let Taehyung or me call dibs first?” Seokjin accused his fiancé.

“I saw it first, so I dibs first,” Namjoon replied. “That's how it works” It was indeed how it worked. Once you saw something up for dibs, you called dibs.

“It doesn't matter anyway, it's probably out of date with it being cheap beer” Taehyung replied as he shook his head and picked up a fry to eat it. “God.. this is salty, Hey! Bogum! Less salt next time” Taehyung said over his shoulder.

“Sorry Taehyung!” Bogum shouted as a reply.

“It's fine,” Taehyung replied over his shoulder and turned back to his best friend's and roommates. As he did so he saw Jeongguk walk through the entrance of the bar. “Jeongguk!”

Jeongguk's head shot up at the sound of his name and he smiled when he saw Taehyung sitting in the booth that he mentioned previously. He made his way over and sat down next to Taehyung in the booth.

“Hey, I didn't expect to see you here,” Jeongguk smiled and looked at Taehyung's friends. “You guys must be his friends-”

“Yes, I nearly forgot to introduce you to them, Jeongguk this is Namjoon..” Taehyung gestured to Namjoon. “And this is Seokjin..”

“Namjoon, Seokjin, this is Jeongguk,” Taehyung added.

“Hey” Namjoon waved.

“Hi!” Seokjin smiled and waved at the other. “Jeongguk, what are you doing in this old place?”

“Oh, well, I thought I'd go to a bar I know to relax a bit from today before I go home for the night” Jeongguk replied with a smile and picked up one of Taehyung's fries to eat. “These are too salty..”

“I know right?” Taehyung replied with a tone in his voice that sounded like disbelief.

Jeongguk glanced at the other two across the booth's table and saw a glint in the light when Seokjin moved his hand. “Are you guys engaged?”

“Yes! Namjoon proposed yesterday!” Seokjin replied as he showed off the ring that had a medium sized diamond in the middle with smaller ones either side of it. “Isn't it pretty?”

“It's so gorgeous..” Jeongguk gasped as he saw it. “Do you guys know about the ring theory?”

“What's the ring theory?” Taehyung asked as he looked at the other with a confused expression.

“The ring theory is that once you have an engagement ring on, you become invisible to people, and they won't hit on you or even see you anymore,” Jeongguk explained as he looked around at the other three males.

“Is that an actual thing?” Namjoon asked not believing what the other said.

“It's just a theory, believe it if you want or if you don't want to, don't” Jeongguk shrugged.

“I don't think that's a thing…” Namjoon trailed off abit as he shook his head with a laugh. As he did so a guy came up to their booth whilst looking at Jeongguk and turned his back to Seokjin.

“Hey there cutie” The random guy winked and smiled at Jeongguk. “How you doing?”

“No thanks mate, move along, I already have a date coming up” Jeongguk rejected the guy bluntly as he held up Taehyung's hand. The guy just rolled his eyes as he stood up and left the booth table.

“See” Jeongguk gave a pointed look to Namjoon.

“That was just a coincidence..” Namjoon shrugged.

“Fine, then wait for the next guy” Jeongguk took a fry from Taehyung's plate again and ate it. “Again, so salty”

“I know..” Taehyung sighed.

“Hey, I just saw you from across the bar-”

“Not interested mate, got a date already” Jeongguk replied again almost robotically to the new guy at their booth without making eye contact with him. This guy also had his back turned to Seokjin. The guy just scoffed and moved on to the back of the bar closest to the bathroom.

Jeongguk just raised an eyebrow at Namjoon. “So..?”

“Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me, fool me three times.. then yeah I'll believe you” Namjoon nodded as he took a drink from his beer bottle.

“Joonie, maybe it is a thing-” Seokjin started to explain before two more guys came up to their booth and both looked at Jeongguk and Taehyung.

“Say… what do you two say about having a four-way?” One asked.

“Sorry not into it” Jeongguk shook his head.

“Not my type,” Taehyung replied. Both were not looking at the men by their booth.

“Fucks sakes all the hot ones aren't interested..” The guy huffed as he walked away with his friend.

“So..?” Jeongguk urged the other.

“Yeah okay, you got me” Namjoon nodded as he wrapped his arm around his fiancé's shoulders.

“See it's a thing” both Jeongguk and Taehyung said in unison.

“Alright, alright, I get it” Namjoon raised both his hands in a defencive stance. “It's like the olive theory”

“The ..what theory?” Jeongguk asked with his eyebrows furrowed.

“The olive theory… you don't know it?” Namjoon asked as he raised an eyebrow.

“No..?” Jeongguk questioned in a trailed off tone. “What's that?”

“Kids…the olive theory was a lie the whole time, but the true outcome of it was that if you did the action for them you truly loved them.. aka saying you don't like Olives, even though you actually did because your partner likes them, is what a relationship is balanced on. When it truly is just you just like to see them smile..”

Hi! I hope you enjoyed it!

I'm still trying to keep that late 2000s humor in there..it's really fun to write actually haha I do miss it. It's not the same anymore sadly. But it probably wouldn't be able to be gotten away with on TV or streaming these days.

I purple you 💜💜💜💜💜
