A soft knock echoed through the office.
Lucian's jaw clenched. His voice was sharp, cold, and demanding. "Who is it?"
Silence.
His sharp gaze flickered toward Xavier, who stood lazily near his desk, twirling a pen between his fingers. "Check who's at the door," Lucian ordered.
Xavier stretched dramatically. "Why do I have to-" He cut himself off with a low curse when he opened the door.
Standing there was Selene, her body stiff, her eyes downcast, and the scent of bitter coffee filling the air. The once-flawless outfit she wore was now drenched, stained with dark liquid, clinging to her curves. Her hands trembled as she gripped the edge of the shirt, trying to suppress the shiver that ran down her spine.
Xavier's usual playful demeanor darkened. His jaw ticked as his gaze swept over her state. "Who the fuck did this to you?" His voice dropped into a dangerous whisper.
Selene didn't answer.
Xavier's fury simmered, his fingers curling into fists. "That person is so fucking dead."
He turned back toward Lucian, whose sharp, piercing gaze locked onto him with a silent question.
"Come here," Xavier said. "You need to see this."
Lucian stood from his chair, his movements calm-too calm. But his eyes... those dark, lethal eyes could kill.
When he reached the door and saw Selene, everything inside him snapped.
The air around them thickened with tension. A dark, unrelenting storm brewed in his gaze. His fingers twitched, aching to strangle the one responsible.
"Who did this to you?" His voice was dangerously low, a quiet promise of destruction.
Selene flinched at the intensity, her fingers clutching the fabric of her ruined dress. She shook her head, her eyes refusing to meet his. She didn't want to see him like this-didn't want to be the cause of his anger.
Lucian inhaled sharply, realizing his mistake. He took a deep breath, forcing himself to soften. He stepped closer, reaching out, his fingers gently tilting her chin up so she could look at him.
"Who did this to you, my princess?" His voice was softer now, filled with something dangerously close to tenderness.
Selene's breath hitched.
Princess.
Nobody had called her that since her mother's death.
The fragile walls around her emotions crumbled, and before she could stop herself, she threw herself into Lucian's arms, sobbing softly against his chest.
Lucian froze for a second before wrapping his arms around her. His embrace was firm, unyielding, protective. His fingers stroked her damp hair, his jaw tightening when he felt how much she was shaking.
"Tell me," he coaxed.
Through soft sniffles, she whispered, "Camilla."
Lucian's eyes darkened. His grip on her waist tightened, his entire body vibrating with restrained fury.
"Xavier." His voice was laced with venom. "Go. Bring her and her little minions to me."
Xavier grinned. "With pleasure." He disappeared out the door.
Lucian didn't waste another second. He scooped Selene into his arms, carrying her effortlessly toward his private bathroom. She gasped softly at the sudden movement, her arms instinctively looping around his neck.
