Arisha's POV:
After that exhausting music fest, I haven't even recovered yet, but here we are preparing again-this time for our trip to Tagaytay. Mikhazra and I were chosen as university representatives to meet the big bosses for the new branch being established there. Dad was the one who assigned me to this, and for sure, Mikhazra's dad did the same, so we really have no choice.
"So unfair, Ate Ari!" Shezelle pouted, crossing her arms like a grumpy kid. "You two are the only ones going? What about me? What about us?"
I sighed, ruffling her hair playfully. "No choice, bebe. I'd love to bring you along, but it's just the two of us. We have to be there in person since we're representing the university."
"Unfair!" Malisse huffed, dramatically slumping onto the couch.
"True!" Stazia joined in, puffing her cheeks.
I chuckled at their reactions. As much as I wanted to bring them, it just wasn't possible.
That night, I started packing since we were leaving early the next day. Classes had just started, yet we were already so busy. At least we had an excuse pass. We'd catch up soon enough-Mikhazra is smart, and honestly, so am I. We wouldn't have been chosen if we weren't capable. No worries, we got this.
Still, the thought of a long trip with her made me feel... something. But I brushed it off and stuffed another sweater into my bag.
One week. That's how long we'd be in Tagaytay.
I sighed, staring out the window of the van. Prof. Maureen and Mikhazra was already seated inside, looking effortlessly detached as always. Headphones in, hoodie up-she gave off the energy of someone who had no plans to engage in small talk. When Prof. Adi finally arrived, I had no choice but to sit beside her.
Bad idea.
At first, we didn't speak. I kept my gaze outside, pretending not to notice how close we were. But exhaustion started to settle in, and my eyelids grew heavier. Before I knew it, my head tilted and landed softly against her shoulder.
I should've moved away. I should've apologized. But I didn't.
Instead, I felt her shift slightly, and to my surprise, she didn't push me away. Minutes passed, and soon, I heard the even rhythm of her breathing. She had fallen asleep too.
Her warmth was comforting. Too comforting.
Then, in the gentlest way possible, she adjusted her position so that I could rest more comfortably. My heart betrayed me with its quickened pace, but I forced myself to ignore it.
I shouldn't feel anything.
I can't feel anything.
By the time we arrived at the exclusive five-star resort, it was already dark. The grand chandeliers in the lobby sparkled like scattered diamonds, and the scent of fresh roses filled the air. Everyone was exhausted, so we agreed to indulge in the gourmet dinner quickly before heading to our suites. But, of course, the teasing never stopped.
"Miss Arisha, you better get used to it; your suite is right next to Prof. Mikhazra's," Prof. Adi smirked, swirling his expensive wine in a crystal glass.
"A-Ano? Bakit naman ako matutuwa doon?" I stammered, my cheeks warming as everyone chuckled around the elegant dining table, covered in fine silk and lined with golden cutlery.
