Tianni moved swiftly through the sterile hospital hallway, her sneakers squeaking against the polished tiles as she balanced her tablet and patient charts.
It was another busy morning, and she was making good time on her rounds.
As she approached Room 214, she was intercepted by Mr. Reynolds, the Chief Nursing Officer.
His greying mustache twitched as he gave her a warm smile.
"Morning, Tianni," he greeted, adjusting his badge on his white coat.
"How's your day been so far?"
She returned his smile.
"It's been good, Mr. Reynolds. Just trying to get through these rounds. How's your wife doing?"
His face softened at the mention of her.
"Oh, she's doing good. Just started taking that pottery class she was talking about. Now the house is full of lopsided bowls," he chuckled, shaking his head.
Tianni laughed lightly.
"Well, at least she's staying busy. I love that for her."
She looked down at her list, "Speaking of staying busy, I'm about to head into Room 214. Is there any new updates I should know?"
Mr. Reynolds expression shifted, his demeanor becoming more serious.
"Actually, about that... you won't need to check on that room anymore."
Tianni's brow furrowed, a wave of confusion washing over her.
"Really? He checked out already? That was fast."
"No, he's still there," Mr. Reynolds clarified.
"But the mother of his child requested a new nurse. She feels... you're not doing your best to get him back to health." He watched her carefully, anticipating her reaction.
Tianni blinked, a spark of anger igniting in her chest.
"What?" she said before she could stop herself.
She quickly composed herself, masking her irritation. "I... understand."
Mr. Reynolds sighed.
"Look, Tianni, you're one of the best nurses we've got. I don't want you dealing with unnecessary drama. This floor has been giving you trouble since day one, and it's not worth the stress. I'm transferring you to maternity. I think you'll be happier there."
Her chest tightened, her jaw clenching as she held back what she really wanted to say.
She wouldn't let some insecure baby mama mess with her bag.
This was her dream job, the one she prayed for.
No one was worth the time and energy it would take to argue over a patient.
