THE MORNING AIR WAS CRISP, carrying the lingering chill of late autumn as adriana pulled her jacket tighter around herself. the sky was still pale with the last traces of sunrise as she slid into the backseat of zayn's car, next to cecelia, who was busy scrolling through her phone.
chris was already in the front, slouched comfortably in the passenger seat with his hoodie pulled over his head, looking half-asleep. he barely spared her a glance as she got in, just exhaling a deep sigh and leaning his head against the window.
"you're the one who wanted to come, and you're acting like we dragged you out of bed," zayn muttered, shifting the car into drive.
chris didn't bother opening his eyes. "i was dragged out of bed."
cecelia snorted. "oh, please. you were probably already awake, just lying there like a corpse."
chris didn't confirm or deny it, only making a noncommittal noise in response.
adriana smirked, adjusting the sleeve of her sweater. "where are we even going?"
"café on main," zayn answered, turning onto the main road. "i figured none of us have had actual food before school in, like, weeks."
