The man before Samus is a complete mystery. He appeared out of nowhere, from behind the dragon, and rather than being drawn to the concerningly large pool of blood left behind by Pyrrha, his eyes were locked onto the girl near the edge of the former headmaster's former office. His semblance, like the orange haired one is always active, but Adam can't quite seem to understand it. He has the data, yes, but it doesn't make sense to him. Sure, neither of them are the most scientifically inclined, but according to Adam, her scan didn't pick up jack other than "Bad luck"
That's it. That's all it says.(unidentified)
Human (Remnant Native), Male, 37
Bad luckShe checks again, same thing. It doesn't make sense.
"Mind puttin' your, uh, 'gun' down?" the man finally says, hands in the air. "I'm just- I was just here to get my niece." He continues, pointing at the unconscious girl with very, very dark red hair. If true, that explains his fixation on her. "Name's Qrow, Qrow Branwen."
"I don't know how she got up here. I found her in that condition." Samus explains, slowly lowering her arm cannon halfway.
"Yeah, I believe ya, I believe ya." he reassures, waving his hand. "Her friends told me you went off to look for Pyrrha and Jaune- Speaking of, Jaune's fine. We found him. He's also apparently the reason Ruby," He gestures to his niece "Went running off to try and save her. Didn't even wait for her friends to say they already sent you after her."
"I assume she's the one who caused that blinding light?"
"yeah, she did." From the tone of his voice and the grimace, it doesn't sound like as good a thing as Samus assumed it was.
"If... Ruby hadn't gotten here and froze that dragon, I don't think I would have been able to save Pyrrha." Samus adds, gesturing to Pyrrha lying in a pool of her own blood. If nothing else, hopefully it alleviates the situation at least a little.
Qrow sighs at that. "At least she has some good news waiting for her when she wakes up. Don't worry though, she's not in trouble. it's just uh... A family secret we're gonna hafta tell her a little too soon."
The conversation lulls for a moment.
"Thanks for watching over them. Yeah, I know, you don't seem like the type to just abandon them, but I'd feel like a dick if I didn't at least say that much."
Samus just nods in response.
"And I'm not sure how you did it, but... thanks for bringing her back." Qrow says, focusing on the large gash in Pyrrha's armor. And her blackened leg. And the sickening volume of blood. "Good on ya for savin' Oz and Glynda's consciences." He adds bitterly.
She recognizes Glynda's name. Ozpin had mentioned she was one of his trusted subordinates. "How so?"
"Yeah, can't really say anythin' 'bout that."
A few silent moments pass.
"So Ozpin... is he?"
"Dead. Charred beyond recognition. Only know because his cane was still in one piece." Samus answers. Really, it raises the question of what it's made out of. Despite the state of Ozpin, his cane was pristine. "The woman in the machine is also dead. Shot with an arrow"
Qrow curses angrily. "Fan-fucking-tastic, two for two. Just what we needed to hear." Samus watches as Qrow takes a flask hooked to his belt and takes a long desperate swig. Alcohol, Adam informs her. "Ozpin's dead, and now Cinder-" He catches himself with a quick glance at Samus, playing it off with a swig of his drink before he continues. "Went and finished the job"
"Cinder?" He already said there's a lot being hidden. She'll get Adam to start combing any electronics and networks for info, but right now, there's not much she can do. So for now, she'll focus on what probably aren't secrets.
"Yeah, Black hair, amber eyes, two swords that combine into a bow?"
That sounds like the person she fought. That part about the bow was new though. "Yeah, that's her. Alone, she didn't pose much of a threat, but I would be willing to think that's just because I was her third fight in quick succession."
"I'd buy it. Oz sure as hell didn't sound like a pushover. But that begs the question: if she was so much of a non-threat, how'd you let that happen?" Qrow asks, gesturing to Pyrrha. He winces as he finishes his question. Probably coulda phrased that better, but too late now.
"That would be the dragon." Samus answers curtly. "Cinder had some form of control over it. At the very least it was trying to protect her."
"Wh- What? Don't tell me-"
"Judging by how much it was trying to keep me from getting back to the ground, and by how it kept me from getting a shot on Cinder, I think it's a pretty safe bet to say that whatever 'confidential' conclusion you're thinking is true."
Qrow gives an exasperated sigh and thinks things over for a few seconds. "Yeah, fuck this. You already seen too much to believe any lies -probably wouldn't even if you didn't, and letting you fall to the- uh, other side- is definitely not an option... Tell ya what, I'll get with Glynda and James, see what they think about lettin' you into our little circle."
"You're sure about this?" Samus asks incredulously.
"Well, like I said, you've seen too much, and since, from the sounds of it, you tore Cinder a new one, she'll be gunning for ya once she recovers. The only thing that would really stop us is the possibility of you being a plant. But seeing as how you went out of your way to keep her alive," Qrow points to Pyrrha, "and busted your ass to keep a lot of kids safe, I'd say you've got quite a few points in your favor."
"Well then. Guess I'll leave it to you."
"LADY, THE MEDICAL TRANSPORT IS NEARING OUR LOCATION."
"Oh, thanks Adam."
"What was that?"
"The transport is almost here. Actually, I can already hear it."
"Huh, yeah. How about that. Just so you know, there's another kid at the bottom I had to bail out, so we're gonna drop down and pick her up as well." Qrow walks over to his niece, and gently picks her up in a princess carry. "It's alright, I gottcha Kiddo, I got ya." the young girl is completely unresponsive in his arms. She is, however, visibly breathing, and that's good enough for Samus right now.
Qrow turns to Samus as the military bullhead hovers into position at the edge of the tower. "Well. let's go. The sooner we get to the safe-zone the better." Four medical personnel disembark, each one quietly expressing their disbelief at the sight of Pyrrha, commenting on the blood loss or the charred leg.
