Episode 10:
I Am Become DeathNormal POV
I finally relax into Murphy after hours of being tense. I knew I was back at camp. I knew they wouldn't hurt me. But my immediate response was to panic. I hear the others talking but block them out, focusing on Murphy. I jolt when Murphy coughs and retches. He rolls away from me and I gasp seeing him coughing up blood.
"Murphy? No, no. Help him." I cry looking at Clarke. "Get him on his side." She tells me rushing to help me. When he stops we roll him back and he groans. "You're gonna be okay Murphy. It's okay." I sniffle and he squeezes my hand. "It spreads by contact. We need to quarantine." Clarke tells the others.
"Who was out there first? To bring them in?" Bellamy asks. "Tavi was first. Connor and Nate. I don't know who else." I answer weakly. "Arty, can I check you for any symptoms?" Clarke asks me. "Besides my pain from... them. I don't feel sick." I tell her but let her check anyway. "She's good. No signs of the sickness." She tells the boys.
Octavia soon comes in for Clarke to check on her as well. Clarke tells Bellamy she would make Octavia stay up top, but then sends her off to Lincoln. "Who is Lincoln?" I ask weakly. "He's a grounder. He's nice though. Octavia's been visiting him a lot." Clarke tells me. "Is she safe? Why did you send her alone? No." I panic and Murphy reaches out pulling me down.
"Hey. Easy. If Clarke trusts the guy, it's okay. Your sister will be okay." He soothes me. "You need rest. Come on and lay down." He says tugging me over next to him. "But what if-" I start but he cuts me off. "Nothing will happen to me. I won't leave you, okay?" He says softly and I nod my head, drifting into nightmares.
"Tell us what we want to know." A man's voice demands. My eyes weakly open seeing I'm in that little dungeon. "No. I won't tell you shit." I hear Murphy snarl in reply. "Put him back." A second voice barks out. There's a thud before a slam. "Let's see if his little friend wants to talk." The voice says and I whimper.
I try to scoot away as the door to my cage opens. "No. No!" I scream when they drag me out. I scramble to grab something as Murphy starts yelling. "Leave her the hell alone! Don't you fucking touch her!" He yells angrily. "Tell us what we want to know." The man says. "Murphy don't." I choke out and his eyes meet mine. Full of panic, worry, and anger.
A fist connects with my face and I cry out in pain. "Stop it! Leave her alone!" I hear Murphy yelling the same thing over and over as they beat me. Until they stop. My head drops onto the floor, feeling too heavy to keep up. But then their hands are on my pants. I scream and start to thrash until I'm hit again. My head spins from how hard they hit me.
My eyes find Murphy's. And I hate seeing the look on his face. He can see it. See the fight I had minutes ago disappear. I try and block out everything around me, focusing on his eyes. Nothing else but that. He keeps screaming at them to stop. But even the sounds around me were gone. A ringing in my ears was all I could hear.
"Arty wake up. Artemis. Hey, wake up" I hear someone yelling. I scream when I open my eyes and someone is hovering over me. I swing and punch them, and scramble back to the wall. "Don't touch me! No! Please, not again!" I scream covering my face. "Get away from her! Back up!" I hear Murphy yelling. "Arty... Goddess look at me. It's me." He says gently. I can hear someone get closer and flinch burying my head further into my arms.
"Hey, it's me. Look at me." He repeats. I slowly raise my head, peaking through my arms at him. "See? It's me. You're okay." He says moving closer. "They... they.. I can't..." I stutter and he nods. "I know. But that will never fucking happen again. I will kill all of them if I have to. Hear me? They will never do that to you again." He says softly.
Everyone else looked confused, but I didn't care. He helps me up off the floor hugging me to his chest. People step through the tarp and I see them dragging my brother in here. "Bell?" I say softly. Murphy turns seeing him as well. Octavia rushes to his side. Clarke moves talking to him about something, glancing our way. "Artemis is my sister. Whether she hates me or not. If she wants Murphy to stay, he stays. I'm not losing her again Clarke." I hear him snap at her.
I smile softly hearing that. Murphy nudges me towards him gently. I wipe my cheeks slowly walking over and lowering myself to sit by him. He looks over at me giving me a weak smile. "Sure you wanna talk to me? I've been a bit of an asshole. And I'm sick." He mutters. "I've been here with Murphy the whole time. I think I'm immune." I tell him and he hums nodding.
"Are you okay?" He asks weakly. I scoff lightly looking down at my hands. I had used up the pen drawing on myself as well as Murphy and Nate's hands. "That's a loaded question Bell. Right now? Not even close." I say and he nods with a frown. "Arty I'm sorry." He tells me softly. "Do you still trust me?" He asks, so soft I barely hear him.
"Why should I trust you? You cast out my best friend, the person I love. And one of the only people I had in the skybox. And didn't even come looking for me when I didn't come back with you." I rant and him and he looks down nodding. "I know I've given you every reason not to. Arty, I'm so sorry. I never wanted you to get hurt. I never meant to make you feel like an outsider. You're my baby sister. And I love you." He tells me.
"I love you too. Even if you've been a complete dick." I mutter and he smiles softly. He holds out his hand to me and I hesitate before grabbing it softly. We sit talking for a bit before he falls asleep. He wakes up just as dawn breaks. They talk about closing the doors before an explosion goes off. I walk out to look, Murphy at my side holding my hand in his. "They did it." Clarke says softly.
I lean into Murphy who hugs me to his side. A bit later the gate opens as the others cheer. I smile softly seeing Jasper and Monty come in with Nate and Finn behind them carrying a girl. "Arty? Holy shit have we missed you. Please don't leave us again. It was uncontrollable chaos." Jasper says coming over to us. I tense up, stepping back and he pauses confused.
"What happened?" He asks as Nate comes back, empty-handed. "A lot happened. Just, don't rush up on her. She needs time." Nate tells him and he frowns but nods. "We really did miss you here Arty. Glad you're back." Monty tells me with a smile. I nod back as I squeeze Murphy's hand.
"Who was the girl?" I ask Nate curiously. "That's Raven. She showed up the night you guys left." He tells me. "Finns girlfriend?" I ask and he nods. "They bought us some time but we need to strengthen our defenses." Bellamy's voice carries over. "What do we do?" Someone asks.
Everyone noticed it but her.
Everyone's
eyes were on her for answers.
