"Old Dragon" Little Snake said, looking into the Dragon King's eyes. "If I do something wrong, will you abandon me?"

The Dragon King frowned, confused. "Why are you asking this all of a sudden?"

"Just answer yes or no" Little Snake said firmly.

"No" the Dragon King replied without hesitation. "You've already caused so much trouble. If I wanted to abandon you, I would have done it long ago."

Little Snake stared at him for a moment. "Fair enough" he said. Then he muttered, "I even tried to kill you" as he turned to leave.

The Dragon King watched him go, his brows furrowing. Then he turned to Mo Yun, who stood frozen with his mouth slightly open.

"What happened?" the Dragon King asked.

Mo Yun hesitated. "Well..." He thought for a moment whether to tell about the encounter with Lilun or not. "I'm just a shadow guard. I shouldn't interfere in my master's personal matters" he said bowing and hurried after the little snake.

The Dragon King remained standing there, staring in the direction they had come from, lost in thought.

Little Snake locked himself in the study, saying he wanted to read swordsmanship scrolls. The Dragon King knew it was a lie, but he didn’t say anything and just let him be.

'I already asked the Dragon King about what happened, but he didn’t give me a clear answer' Little Snake thought. 'If Lilun only killed evil people, he wouldn’t be punished. Maybe some of the people he killed were just ordinary workers who didn’t deserve to die but only some light punishment. But if that were the case, he wouldn’t have only gotten 500 years. He said he killed a lot of people… If that’s true, the punishment should’ve been much worse. Mo Yun was right, I only know what Lilun told me. Old Dragon doesn’t like to talk about it either. Then who can I ask?'

He thought for a moment, then his eyes lit up.

'The Demon King. Who else would know about them better than him? But with our past he might just burn me with his phoenix fire the moment he sees me'

Little Snake hesitated, thinking some more.

'No, Old Dragon is his best friend. Given my relationship with Old Dragon, he wouldn’t hurt me. At worst, he’d just throw me out of the palace.'

Making up his mind, he stood up and quietly left the study. He peeked around the hallways, trying to sneak out without the Dragon King noticing.

Just as he thought the coast was clear, a voice suddenly spoke right next to his ear.

"You finally came out"

"Whoa!" Little Snake jumped, spinning around. The Dragon King was standing right there, hands behind his back, leaning down to his level.

"Were you guarding the door or something?" Little Snake asked, rubbing his chest.

"You really need to work on your senses, little one" the Dragon King said as he straightened up. "Let’s go eat"

"I’m not hungry" Little Snake replied. "I’m going for a walk"

"Alright, let’s go" the Dragon King said, turning to lead the way.
