You sat on the rooftop of the tower, high above the city, far away from the world. Disconnected and dangerous. That was how you felt in such a world anyway. In your direct line of sight, you could see tall buildings, the skyline, and the river beyond. You wanted so badly to run your fingers through the running, rushing, living waters of a true river, much like you had on Asgard. Tony had told you that the rivers in New York weren't very clean. He told you he'd take you to see the ocean someday. Whatever emotion was written on his face that day was anything but positive. It made you believe that it would be a long, long time before then.

Instead of longing for a river or a stream or just, something, you turned your face to the sky. Leaning back against the cold hard concrete of the roof, stars were poking out from behind wispy clouds. With the city light all captured below, it was easier to see stars from your elevation. From the ground, the light pollution would all but block them out. It was a clear night, a light breeze ruffling the edges of your jeans. You didn't necessarily like the stiff fabric of jeans, but they were more 'formal' than sweatpants or your gym attire. Which was all you ever wore otherwise. If Tony spent his money on something for you, you were going to put it to use.

As you were fiddling with the cuffs of your jeans, your senses alerted you to a presence nearby. Though whoever it was did not seem to make any audible noise except for the faint whoosh of wind. It was curious.

You turned your head to see a human. Or at least he looked human. He was floating, a nice suit and glasses perched atop his nose. He looked entirely plain aside from the glowing gem on his forehead. You immediately raised your hands and jumped into a defensive position. The man chuckled.

"They told me you were jumpy."

You narrowed your gaze at him, your posture rigid as you realized your back was exposed. He better not have brought any friends. You didn't pick up on anything else though, just him. Whatever he was.

"Well, I just wanted to greet you. I know I have been absent for a few weeks. My computers have informed me of all the occurings since your arrival. I find it quite intriguing that you say you have no recollection of anything before that."

Your eye twitched. He knew everything. What he didn't realize, was that you truly didn't know anything. The floating man hovered closer. Inching his way into your personal space as you circled yourself away from the edge of the rooftop.

"You can feel it? Can't you?" the man asked, done speaking without questions to someone who refused to reply.

Your gaze immediately fell. You breathed in as your shoulders dropped. He was your last soulmate, Vision.

You had heard much about him, from Wanda and Tony mainly. They were the closest with the synthezoid.

"Ya ne khochu govorit'" you mumbled.

"Fair, but I am here finally. Are you not... ahh what would humans describe it as?" Vision sighed, putting a hand to his chin as he thought. "Excited? Yes, that is the best way to phrase it."

"I am not entirely human, you forget," you told him, defiance in your eyes.

"And yet you are soulmates with them. You continue to grow curiouser and curiouser."

"And what about it?" you ask, finally removing your eyes from him. He was no threat after all.

You turned your face to the night once more, the darkness seemed to sway in the light of the stars. There was a moment of serenity before Vision once again shattered the whisker-thin veil of silence. Breathing again, you listened.

"Is it not beautiful?" he asked.

Rhetorically perhaps, but regardless you let out a breath, "Yes, and it is true that the Earth holds many rare beauties in its nature. I thought the stars from Asgard were to live for."

"Oh- The phrase is 'to die for,'" Vision cut into your thoughts. You nodded in understanding.

"Sorry, I am trying."

"I know, please continue, I would like to hear your thoughts about this planet compared to your own."

"Well, I am not sure Asgard is my own. What I do know is that if the stars there are beyond gorgeous, the stars here are unfathomable. I just wonder whether some of them are lonely up in the sky?"

"I have seen those who studied the stars for decades. They only learned an infinitesimal amount. Yet you, merely gazing at them, seem to truly understand their beings," Vision smiled. "No wonder..." He stared in awe at you for only a moment.

"My tattoo, whatever the connection that my synthezoid body has gifted me with to you. That is what it says," he explained.

"It says all of that?" you asked, eyebrows raised.

"No," he softly chuckled. "It says, 'To truly understand their beings.'"

"You are not a star," you say, not entirely grasping the meaning behind Vision's words.

"I may not be, but you and I come from stars, and will die with the stars."

"And so it will be," you say, turning back to the Milky Way, the planets, and the galaxy gazing down at the two of you.
