|🌻-Y/n's POV-🌻|

I yawned, shuffling a Rubik's Cube under the desk during Lit.

"So, for the rest of the year, we are going to be reading Romeo and Juliet," the teacher told us. "We're going to pick parts now, and you'll be reading that part until we complete the book. First, there's the Montague family: Lord and Lady Montague, their son Romeo, his cousin Benvolio, and his best friend Mercutio. He is related to Prince Escalus, who is also related to Paris."

I looked over at Vi. She made eye contact and pretended to fall asleep. I laughed quietly.

"Paris wants to marry Juliet, of the Capulet family. Now, it's very important to know that the Montagues and Capulets have been fighting for generations."

"Who doesn't know that?" The guy behind me said.

The teacher didn't acknowledge it, which confused me.

"Lord and Lady Montague are Juliet's parents, and Tybalt is Juliet's cousin. The Nurse is the one who raised Juliet, and is a mother figure to her. Similarly, Friar Lawrence is like a father figure to Romeo. There will be more characters as we go through. Do we have any volunteers?"

I rolled my eyes again.

"Ah, Camilo, thank you!"

I looked up, and saw the curly haired boy, glaring at Mei, who'd obviously raised his hand for him.

"Who would you like to be?"

"Uh, I'll do Romeo, I guess."

Mei looked at me and winked.

I rolled my eyes again.
This is what I get for telling the girls when I get a crush.

"Oh! My! God!" Violet and Meilin had gasped.

"Guys, it's nothing, really! It's barely even a crush at this point."

I was in the library with them, two weeks after I'd broken up with Alberto.

Him and Luca had been dating the whole time, in case you were wondering.

"I just... I think he's cute."

"That's the first step of a crush, doy!" Mei shrugged.

"Next, you'll be saying you're getting really close, and having deep conversations in the middle of the night."

I looked at the ground, feeling my face heating up.

"Oh! My! GOD!"

"Any other volunteers?" The teacher was asking now. "If you don't raise your hand, I will pick on you."

Alberto raised his hand. "I'll be Mercutio."

"I'll be Benvolio," Luca claimed.

"Nurse," volunteered Violet.

"I can do Friar Lawrence," Mei said.

I groaned quietly and raised my hand. "I'll do Juliet."

Camilo looked over at me and winked.

"Great!"

The other kids I didn't really know, except for-

"Isaac Lanez, will you read Tybalt for us?"

The blond looked at me briefly before rolling his eyes. "Whatever."

"Okay, today, we are finally going to see Romeo and Juliet meet for the first time at the Capulet's party, as we read last time."

"You are a saucy boy!" Berto called out and everyone laughed.

The teacher held back a smile. "Yes, that. Camilo, whenever you're ready."

Milo glanced at me and cleared his throat.

"If I profane with my unworthiest hand
This holy shrine, the gentle sin is this:
My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand
To smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss."

I read out, with a smile at my Romeo. "Good pilgrim, you do wrong your hand too much,
Which mannerly devotion shows in this;
For saints have hands that pilgrims' hands do touch,
And palm to palm is holy palmers' kiss."

He smirked. "Have not saints lips, and holy palmers too?"

"Ay, pilgrim, lips that they must use in prayer," I replied.

"O then, dear saint, let lips do what hands do.
They pray: grant thou, lest faith turn to despair."

"Saints do not move, though grant for prayers' sake."

"Then move not while my prayer's effect I take."

I looked at the stage direction and flushed red.

'He kisses her'

"Oooooo!" Our friends cooed. "Do it! Do it!"

"Keep reading, Camilo," the teacher instructed.

He cleared his throat, face just as red as mine.

"Thus from my lips, by thine, my sin is purged."

"Then have my lips the sin that they have took."

I caught him watching me as I read. I smiled up at him and he blushed again.

"Sin from my lips? O trespass sweetly urged! Give me my sin again."

Our friends cooed again as the script instructed another kiss.

I laughed. "You kiss by th' book."

Violet managed to stop snickering by her line.

"Madam, your mother craves a word with you."

"What is her mother?" Milo read, causing several people to laugh.

We read out the rest of the scene, before the end of class. The moment we stepped out of the room, our friends burst out into laughter.

"You kiss by the book!" Berto quoted with a snort.

"You still need to act out that stage direction, Romeo," Mei teased, nudging his ribs harshly.

"Shut up, you guys!" He laughed, face redder than I'd ever seen it.

"You know you wanna," Violet sung.

Camilo glanced at me. The moment he made eye contact, he turned into me, face still tomato red.

"C'mon, guys, give him a break," I smiled, nudging them.

"Sure you don't wanna kiss him too?"

I looked at the bright red imitation of myself and smiled.

"If I were to kiss you then go to hell, I would. So then I can brag with the devils I saw heaven without ever entering it."

He hid his head in his hands in embarrassment as our friends cheered. Slowly, I reached up and grabbed his wrist. The moment I made contact, my blushing face shifted back into his own.

I interlocked our hands and smiled warmly at him.
