One week later, they had found it: a cozy three-story house with a large backyard, a perfect place for Whiskey to run and play. The walls were painted a warm shade of brown, a nod to their shared love of leather and the rich tones of the city they called home. The living room had a large bay window, perfect for Benji to sit and sketch the ever-changing skyline. They had signed the papers with trembling hands, the weight of their decision pressing down on them like a warm blanket.

Their friends had rallied around them, offering to help with the move. The day was a flurry of cardboard boxes, laughter, and good-natured ribbing. By the time they had carried the last of their possessions through the front door, the sun was setting, casting a warm glow across the freshly painted walls. Benji's heart felt as though it might burst with happiness as they looked around at the life they were building together.

The first night in the new house, Joseph had insisted on cooking dinner. The aroma of garlic and tomatoes filled the air as he worked his magic in the kitchen. Benji, feeling a bit overwhelmed by the day's events, had retreated to their new room, which was already feeling cozier with the addition of their favorite blankets and art prints. The bed was still a mess of tangled sheets from their impromptu nap earlier, and the sight brought a smile to their face.

They lay there, listening to the comforting sounds of Joseph bustling around, the occasional clang of a pan or the sizzle of something delicious reaching them through the open door. It was the kind of domestic bliss Benji had never allowed themselves to imagine, not in a million years. And yet, here they were, sharing a home with the man who had become their everything.

Finally, the smell of dinner grew too tempting, and Benji peeled themselves away from the warm embrace of their bed. They padded downstairs, their bare feet cold against the hardwood, and found Joseph in the kitchen, apron tied around his waist, looking every bit the part of a doting partner. "It's ready," he said, turning to smile at Benji, and the love in his eyes was like a warm embrace.

They sat down at the small dinner table, the room filled with the mouthwatering scent of lasagna and garlic bread. Benji couldn't believe how lucky they were, to have someone who cared so deeply for them, who knew their favorite meal and had gone to the trouble of making it from scratch. The candles flickered, casting shadows across Joseph's face, and for a moment, Benji felt as if they were in a dream.

But it was real, all too real. This was their life now, their future laid out before them in the warm embrace of a home that was truly theirs. They picked at their food, their eyes never leaving Joseph's. "I can't believe we're really doing this," Benji said, their voice filled with wonder.

"I know," Joseph said, his hand reaching out to cover Benji's. "But I wouldn't have it any other way."

The weeks that followed were a blur of packing boxes, choosing paint colors, and endless trips to IKEA. Their friends had been a godsend, helping them lug their lives from Joseph's cramped apartment to their new spacious home. It was a labor of love, and Benji couldn't help but feel a little overwhelmed at the sheer amount of care and effort everyone was putting into making their house a home.

One week later, as the movers carried the last of their possessions into the house, Joseph stood in the doorway, watching as Benji chased after Whiskey, who was exploring his new domain with the enthusiasm of a puppy. The sight brought a warmth to his chest that he hadn't felt in a long time. This was it, their new life together.
