I stared out blankly across the forest that surrounded the Cullens' home, as everyone was talking about what I had seen. After the disturbing vision I had been shown, I had no hesitation—I immediately told Emmett everything. The choice I made was the wrong one—I could see the pain in his eyes instantly. Just moments ago, I had given him the happiest news he'd ever heard, only to crush it in a matter of seconds.
My mind was scattered, racing in every direction, unable to focus on a single thought. Their harsh tones echoed in my ears as they spoke loudly, dissecting everything I had seen.
"We can't be certain if what she witnessed is the truth," Carlisle interjected, his calm voice cutting through the rising tension, though I couldn't tell who he had interrupted.
"She saw this house burning. She saw us burning," Bella shot back, her tone sharp and edged with urgency. "There's no room for debate."
"I would have seen Aro make the decision," Alice stated firmly, her voice cutting through the room.
"Are you sure what you saw was real?" Jasper's voice cut through the air; the question was directed at me. Though his words reached my ears, I remained silent, lost in thought, my mind drifting far from the present moment.
The room fell silent, the weight of their gazes pressing down on me. I could feel every pair of eyes fixed on the back of my head, waiting for me to speak.
"Yes," I finally said, my voice steady but heavy with the weight of what I had seen. I turned my attention to the family gathered before me, their faces etched with concern and curiosity. Yet, even as I looked at them, flickers of the vision invaded my mind—haunting images of them consumed by flames, their forms crumbling into ash, and this house reduced to smouldering ruins.
"I watched as you were torn apart, limb by limb," I began, my voice trembling slightly as my gaze shifted between each of them. "And then thrown onto the flames..." The weight of the memory pressed down on me as I continued. "It felt real—too real."
My words hung heavy in the air as my eyes finally settled on Emmett's. The vision of him dying struck me harder than the rest. He wasn't just family—he was my husband. Seeing him perish had carved a deep, unbearable ache into my soul.
"You have no idea who she is?" my Grams' voice echoed through the room, drawing my attention. I turned to face her, shaking my head gently, understanding she was referring to the figure who had revealed the terrifying glimpse of the future to me.
"There's only one logical thing to do," I admitted, my voice heavy with resignation. There was no escaping this fate—no version of the future where it didn't end with all of them dead. And likely, myself included.
I turned my gaze to Emmett, the sound of his steady footsteps drawing closer. As he reached me, I pulled him into a tight embrace, my hand gently tracing its way to his cheek. He leaned into my touch, nuzzling against my palm.
