The little snake sat in front of Lingxi Villa, inspecting the sword he had found underground. It no longer glowed. Unsheating it, he looked at the shiny, mirror-like silver blade. In its reflection, he noticed someone standing behind him. Startled, he turned around to see Bai Jiu peeking out from the door, holding a small bottle in his hand.

"What do you want?" the little snake asked. Bai Jiu hesitated before stepping closer.

"Can I see your hand?" the child asked softly. The little snake glanced at his hand, still marked by the bites of the Chenhuos, and held it out. Bai Jiu opened the bottle, sprinkling some powder on the wound before pulling a bandage from under his sleeve.

"You know I’m a demon, right?" the little snake said. "Our wounds heal on their own."

"But for small demons like you, it still takes time" Bai Jiu replied, carefully wrapping the wound. "So it might still hurt"

The little snake raised an eyebrow. "I’m not small, I’m an adult now" he replied. "So, you’re not afraid of me anymore?"

Bai Jiu looked down, his voice barely above a whisper. "Thank you for saving me" Then, without waiting for a reply, he turned and ran back inside.

The little snake watched him go. "Guess you still are" he muttered to himself.

Yeyun dismissed the ministers, ending the meeting with a wave of his hand. As the room emptied, he muttered to himself, "All they do is talk nonsense" He leaned back comfortably on his throne.

"Yun Ga, morning!" a voice called out. Yeyun glanced up to see Lilun approaching.

"I thought I told you to focus on your cultivation" Yeyun said, frowning. "What are you doing here?"

"I already finished" Lilun replied with a grin.

"You lost at least a few hundred years’ worth of cultivation after that" Yeyun said. "There’s no way you’ve recovered so quickly"

"I can because of this" Lilun said, pulling out a small sundial. "This is the best gift you’ve ever given me. Inside, time moves slower than in the real world. A few hours in here is worth hundreds of years of cultivation"

Yeyun sighed, rubbing his temples. "I shouldn’t have given you that"

"I came out because I sensed something" Lilun said.

"What is it? Are you alright?" Yeyun asked, sitting up straight.

"I’m fine, but I think Zhu Yan’s little pet isn’t" Lilun replied.

Yeyun rolled his eyes. "What about him?"

"Oh, and I just remembered something important" Lilun said suddenly. "I was supposed to tell you this before, but you got mad over nothing"

"What is it?" Yeyun asked impatiently.

"Like we suspected, Zhu Yan’s pet was the one who helped your sister escape"  Lilun said. "He admitted it. But he also said he lost contact with them after they left Dragon Valley City. I’ve been there and poked around, asked a few minor demons, but couldn’t find any clues. You should send some men to investigate"

Yeyun nodded, his expression darkening.

"Why not just let her be?" Lilun suggested with a shrug. "It’s just a lowly demon. Let her enjoy herself"

"It’s not that simple" Yeyun replied firmly. "Of course, I’d give her anything she wants, but this demon... Something about it feels wrong"

Lilun rolled his eyes. "You’re going through all this trouble just because of a bad feeling?"
