The little snake looked at the mirror, staring at the wound on his neck. "That wicked tree. I didn't even bite him that hard" he muttered, wiping the wound with a handkerchief. He noticed the vein-like marks on his neck were fading, but the ones on his hand stayed clear, almost like a tattoo.
"Little one, are you in there?" came the Dragon King's voice from outside.
"Go away" the little snake replied. He knew it wasn't the Dragon King's fault, but he still didn't feel like talking to him.
The door creaked open anyway, and the Dragon King stepped inside. The little snake glanced at him through the mirror's reflection.
"Are you okay?" the Dragon King asked.
"Oh, totally" the little snake said with a sharp tone. "A crazy tree burst into my room, choked me with its vines, and left some on me. I'm perfectly fine."
The Dragon King ignored the sarcasm and walked closer. He knelt beside the little snake and gently took his hand, examining the dark marks.
"It's already settled" the Dragon King said, looking at the tattoo-like mark on the little snake's hand.
"Is there really no way to get rid of it?" the little snake asked, frowning.
"It's a piece of Lilun's true form, now tied to yours" the Dragon King explained, gently tracing the mark with his fingers. "If we try to remove it, you could lose your arm. I really don't know what he was thinking."
The Dragon King's gaze shifted to the little snake's neck, noticing the faint bite mark. His eyes darkened. "I should've knocked some sense into him before letting him go."
He placed his hand over the bite wound, and a soft golden glow spread from his palm. Warmth flowed into the little snake's skin, easing the ache. Slowly, the wound faded until it was completely gone.
"That should do it" the Dragon King said with a small nod. Little snake signed.
The Dragon King reached out, his hand gently cupping the little snake's face. His touch was warm. "I'm sorry," he said softly, his voice heavy with guilt. "I'm sorry I couldn't protect you. I'm sorry I came too late."
The little snake's eyes widened slightly, and for a moment, he didn't know what to say. He leaned into the Dragon King's hand without thinking, finding comfort in the gesture. "It's not your fault" he muttered, his voice barely above a whisper. "You didn't know this would happen."
"I should have been more careful about you" Dragon King said, his gaze dropping. "I should have been there before it got this far."
"But you came anyway" the little snake replied. Placed his smaller hand over the Dragon King's, pressing it lightly against his cheek. "That's what matters to me."
For a moment, they stayed like that, the air between them filled with an unspoken understanding.
"Let's clean up and get some rest. We have a lot to do tomorrow." Dragon king said caressing little snakes face.
Instead of moving, the little snake bent down and wrapped his arms around the Dragon King in a sudden hug. "Can we just sleep? I'm so tired" he whined softly.
"No way" he said, patting the little snake's back. "You need to clean up first. Come on, I'll take you to the bathroom."
Before the little snake could protest, the Dragon King scooped him up effortlessly.
"Hey, I'm not a kid" the little snake protested, his voice muffled against the Dragon King's shoulder.
The Dragon King smirked, carrying him toward the bathroom. "No, but you act like one."
