Chapter 5
Yan Mo had a growing sense of unease. He suspected that if he didn't start reducing his scum points soon, the punishments would escalate. Perhaps another penalty would trigger after 10 points—or maybe 100. If he were the one creating the rules, that's exactly how he would design them.
But how could he reduce his scum points?
His heart raced as an idea struck him. Turning to Cao Ting, he asked, "Sister, are you curious about the strange things I've been doing?"
Cao Ting nodded, her eyes wide with interest.
"Remember this," Yan Mo began, "if you ever encounter a similar situation in the future—especially with minor fractures—you can use this method. If you don't have sticks, you can use other hard, inflexible materials like slate or animal bones."
As he spoke, Yan Mo demonstrated with the remaining sticks, carefully guiding Cao Ting through the basics of treating fractures.
Yan Mo was no stranger to teaching. In his previous life, he had trained both seasoned professionals and complete beginners. For someone like Cao Ting, who had no medical foundation, he used the simplest and clearest explanations, paired with hands-on examples.
While he was patient with those who tried their best, Yan Mo had no tolerance for wasted opportunities. If a student didn't listen or learn, he wouldn't show his displeasure openly—but he would remember. And if they continued to disregard his teachings, he would cut them off entirely.
Cao Ting, however, hung on his every word. Her face lit with gratitude as she nodded eagerly. She completely ignored the fact that Yan Mo was much younger than her and instead treated him with the reverence reserved for a priest's disciple.
At first, she had been shaken by Yan Mo's seemingly barbaric self-treatment methods. But now, she was utterly convinced that he was indeed a disciple of the Yanshan Tribe's priest. To her, learning healing techniques from him was nothing short of a blessing from the heavens.
— Teach First Aid Fracture Knowledge Once
Scum -1 Point
Total Scum Points: 100,000,007
Yan Mo's suspicion was confirmed, and a small smile tugged at his lips. It worked. But the decrease of just one point felt far too insignificant.
Five seconds later, another line of text appeared in the guide:
Note: When the learner uses their first aid knowledge for the first time and applies it successfully, the initial instructor will decrease scum points by one.
So it's like a multi-level marketing scheme, Yan Mo mused. The realization amused him, but it also made him more focused. If he wanted Cao Ting to lower his scum points further, he had to ensure she fully understood and applied his teachings successfully.
Yan Mo continued explaining, breaking down complex concepts into digestible bits. "For serious fractures—like mine or Da He's, where only the skin holds the bones together—it's not just about aligning the bones. A complicated surgery is needed.
"This kind of procedure would involve removing shattered bone fragments, resetting the bone, and reconnecting tendons and blood vessels. Even then, there could be complications."
"Complications?" Cao Ting asked, frowning in confusion.
"Even if the bones heal, the limb might not work properly. The leg could lose strength, or the hand might not be able to grip or hold heavy objects anymore. Still, that's better than losing the limb entirely. But since we don't have the tools or conditions for surgery here, we have to make do."
