Summary: Reader served in the marines for years, hiding a deep secret from those around them. With a newfound situationship, the reveal of it is threatened.
Warnings: Mentions of grief, and death...From as far as your memory could go back, the most impactful reminiscents of your life were the ones filled with death.
Death- always secretly lingering in the shadows like a panther waiting to pounce on its prey. At this rate, grief commonly guided you through your miserable life on Earth.
Perhaps, that's why you tended to run away from places which became too familiar. Deeply fearing that those you cared for would disappear if you got too comfortable there.
You had even made space in your hectic life for an annual rule. Each year, you would move to a new city- new colleagues, place, acquaintances. New everything.
This drill of yours, usually worked best with the peaceful aspect of your life. However, being in the marines complicated it quite a lot as the death rate was significantly higher in the recent years. No matter where you went, the omniscient concept was waiting to strike.
It wasn't much of a bother though, as you were used to losing people. If it so happened that any of your fellow comrades tragically lost their lives, you would mourn them in a respectful manner, of course. Fully honouring their strong willed spirits, and bravery. Nevertheless, no tears would be shed. No matter how close you had grown to become.
In your mind, this made perfect sense. You were simply protecting yourself. Or for better wording, you were moulding yourself to become the best, most tough version you could possibly become. Regardless of whether or not it was based on an irrational mindset.
Your most recent move you embarked on earlier this year was much more expansive as compared to those before. Completely different, infact. Afterall, you had found yourself waking up in the glass chamber, on a completely different planet.
Even so, as rash as your decision to accept this opportunity was, would it ever present itself to you again? How could you not accept it?
Funny enough, Jake was the only person you hadn't technically abandoned. However, this was only because you were once again reunited in the Avatar Program, after serving together years ago.
You still remembered the first day of your new life-
After you were introduced to the people who would eventually become a second family to you, you sat on your assigned bed wondering what you had gotten yourself into.
Oh, how fast time flied. The memory of your legs dangling off the edge of that bed now seemed distant in your mind.
"Hey!" Jake's loud voice snapped you from your small daydream. "How's the wind that side?" He shouted over the roaring wind of the Pandoran skies.
" 's just right!" You shouted back, offering a joyous smile. To which, he returned his own toothy smile back.
It happened so fast, from one moment, you were soaring through the skies on your new Ikran.
The next, you found yourself stuck in your mind, teleported back into the past.
Several different memories flashed by. Your first time meeting the team; the otherworldly feeling which encompassed you when you first entered the avatar body, so on and so forth.
The majestic creature carrying you disappeared from your thoughts, replaced with yet again, another memory-
Tsu'tey's hands slowly guiding your own pair that rested atop the bow. He moved quick in adjusting your shoulders to fix your poor posture. As soon as his fingertips left your soft skin, an invading chill replaced his previously given warmth.
