The wind whipped through the trees as you stood just outside the training arena, the faint sounds of sparring and laughter echoing from a distance. Reyna leaned against a nearby post, her arms crossed tightly over her chest, her expression guarded as ever.

You took a step closer, your voice softer than usual. “Why do you always push me away?”

Reyna’s eyes flicked to you briefly before looking away, her jaw tightening. “Have you ever considered the fact that I just don’t like you?”

Her words hit like a dagger to the chest, but you didn’t let it show. Instead, you gave a nervous laugh, scratching the back of your neck. “... No.”

She finally looked at you then, her dark eyes steady and unreadable. “Well, consider it.”

Silence stretched between you, and for a moment, you wondered if you should just walk away. But something about the way her voice faltered—just slightly, barely noticeable—made you stay.

“Yeah, I don’t buy that,” you said finally, stepping closer.

Her brows furrowed. “Excuse me?”

“You don’t like me?” you repeated, a faint smirk tugging at your lips. “That’s the best you’ve got? Reyna, I’ve fought alongside you, I’ve seen the way you trust me in battle, the way you let your guard down when it’s just us. If you didn’t like me, you wouldn’t let me get this close.”

Reyna’s posture stiffened, and for a moment, you thought she was going to lash out, tell you off for assuming things. But instead, she sighed, rubbing a hand over her face. “You’re infuriating, you know that?”

“It’s part of my charm,” you replied, your grin widening. “Admit it. You don’t push me away because you don’t like me—you push me away because you do.”

Her glare was sharp, but the faint flush creeping up her neck betrayed her. “You’re impossible.”

“And yet, you keep me around.”

She didn’t respond, but the smallest of smiles tugged at her lips as she shook her head. “Don’t read too much into this,” she muttered, turning to walk away.

You let her go, but the smile on your face lingered. “Whatever you say, Reyna,” you called after her. “But I’m not going anywhere.”

For a moment, she paused, glancing back over her shoulder. “We’ll see about that,” she said, her voice softer now. Then she was gone, disappearing into the arena, leaving you with a spark of hope that maybe, just maybe, you were right.
