Isabella and Leah have known each other since Isabella moved almost 10 years ago. Both of them were 7 years old when they met, Leah was playing with the ball when by accident she hit Isabella with it. But Isabella or Bella as Leah used to call her, did not get angry, not at all, instead she just laughed, making Leah eventually to laugh with her but apologising as well.

"I'm sorry, it was an accident" Leah says picking up her ball

"Don't worry, it didn't hurt at all" Isabella reassures her

"So, are you new here? I've seen what I imagine are your parents carrying a lot of boxes" Leah asks

"Yeah, I've just arrived actually. It's nice here" Isabella answers.

And just like that both of them clicked instantly, they were different, while Leah loved football, Bella was more fond in dancing and singing. Leah grew to be more as an introvert whereas Isabella was the extroverted one, they basically complemented each other. And their friendship was the one everyone dreams of, well that was until feelings got involved.

At seventeen, things changed between them two, they felt different around each other. But none of them told the other one how they felt until one night, the tension was just unbearable. They were walking back home from a friend's party, it was a little bit late but they were in no conditions to call their parent to pick them up, and it their houses were only two street down from their friend's house.

They walked in silence, but the tension was palpable, back in the party they couldn't keep their eyes off of each other, but neither of them make a move. And when Bella saw that Leah was heading home, she told her that she was heading home too.

"you know... I think we should talk" Bella starts

"What you wanna talk about?" Leah asks acting as if she didn't know

"You know about what, don't pretend you don't Leah" Bella says with a serious tone. "I just want to clarify, some thoughts that I think we both have been having" Leah nodded but didn't say anything just kept walking and looking down. Though they got home pretty quickly.

"Look, let's just sit in that bench and talk without pressure" Bella says and again Leah just nods.

As they sat down, it was awkward at first, both didn't know how to start or what to tell, but they knew what they felt, just not how to express it.

"I'll start" Bella speaks first "I... I like you Le, you're someone with whom I feel like I can be at any time myself, no judgement, no overthinking. I am at peace whenever I'm with you"

"I feel the same Bella" Leah says with a small smile "But-"

"Wait Le, let me finish okay?" and Leah nods. "We've been best friends for almost ten years now, and I hope that doesn't change ever, even if these..." Bella points between Leah and her. "whatever feelings I think we're both having are in the middle, as I said before I like you and even though we're young and don't have any idea of life, I know that with you I would face any challenge, because you make me feel safe, like I can do everything" Leah was now looking down, tears forming in her eyes. "Le, are you crying? Please no, If you don't feel the same that's okay I just needed to say it because it's been consuming me these last days not telling you and not having an answer"

Leah at that moment, looks up with teary eyes, a look that said everything that Bella needed to know.

"Bella" Leah says almost as a whisper. "I like you too, but I just don't want to risk our friendship, if we cross this line we might not be able to go back and be like we were before, and I just- I don't think I can take that risk" Leah says

"Leah, I promise, that if we ever, ever, break up things won't change, not at all, obviously we will need time apart, but in the case we do separate we will have our reasons and we will move on, but for now just tell me if you want to give it a try, if not, that's okay we'll be just... best friends" Bella finishes

"Okay, we'll go at our pace, see how we're doing and where it goes. I like you too much I don't think I can see you with another girl that's not me" Leah says with a chuckle, which cause Bella to laugh as well.

"Okay, that's perfect, we'll just go with the flow"

Back to present days

Isabella turned out to be a songwriter along with her studies in publicity and marketing. While she was finishing now uni at 22, in her free time she would write songs, songs that never came out, no one have listened to them. As she was now in her little guest room where she keeps all these lyrics, she was now writing a song, a new song where she remembers those years with Leah back when they were 17 and knew nothing at all about love. Their relationship was one of a kind, they both understood each other. However, while Leah was getting closer to her dream of being a professional footballer in Arsenal, her club, she was also distancing herself from Bella, it was at one point that Bella just couldn't keep her feelings anymore. And just a year ago, their relationship ended. It has been a difficult time for both of them, however Leah had football as an escape but Bella had only her music, and every song that she had written, was about her.

This time, the title was She got the best of me, and as Bella ended singing it once more with her guitar, she decided to record it, and without thinking twice posted the song in Spotify. What she didn't expect was for the song to get as popular as it got. It was everywhere, on the radio, on stores as background music. And she could only wonder if she had listened to the song, it was obvious that it was for her. But only she would know that.

Leah. She achieved her dream. Playing with the senior team in Arsenal, being a pro footballer. But she lost along the way one of the most important persons of her life. She regretted everyday since that day, her attitude towards Bella. But she knew that maybe her lifestyles were very different, and decided that if she was the right person, they would end up meeting again. But, later Jordan, an Arsenal teammate, started to become more than friends with Leah, and although Leah liked her she couldn't really fall in love with her, not at all.

Then, one day, as Leah was leaving training, she got in her car, and turned on the radio. But as soon as the next song started to play, she stop the car. It was her voice, on the radio. She couldn't believe it. Leah heard the song and analysed the words one by one. She knew that this was for her.

As the song ended, tears formed in Leah's eyes. Was this a sign? At that moment Leah regretted even more her decisions of the past, but now she couldn't do anything. They haven't talked for more than a year. She has lost her.
