Happy Black History Month 🤎

Atlanta, GA | June 4th
11:49amI pulled into the clinic parking lot and barely managed to snag a spot near the front when it caught my eye. A sleek black benz truck parked a few spaces away.
Torrian.
Of course he'd beat me here.
I cut the engine and grabbed my purse. I stepped out of my car, adjusting my sweatshirt, and made my way toward the building.
He was leaning against the passenger side of his car, scrolling through his phone, dressed casually in a fitted t-shirt and jeans. As I approached, he glanced up, his green eyes locking onto mine.
"Late as hell." He said, stuffing his phone into his pocket.
I rolled my eyes. "I'm not late. You're just early."
"Same thing." He smirked and fell into step beside me as we walked inside.
The waiting room was quiet except for the soft hum of the TV mounted in the corner. I checked in at the front desk, then sat down, scrolling aimlessly through my phone while Torrian sat a seat over, his long legs stretched out in front of him.
"You didnt have to come, you know." I said glancing at him, knowing he cancelled a meeting to be here with me today. I had just came from class as well, leaving a bit earlier so i could change and make my appointment.
"I wanted to." He replied.
Before I could respond, the nurse called my name. We stood and followed her toward the back.
The doctor greeted us warmly, her smile reassuring as she began the routine checkup. Measurements, a quick listen to the baby's heartbeat, and the usual questions flew by. Then came the ultrasound.
I lay back on the exam table, my sweatshirt lifted just enough for the gel. Torrian stood near the monitor, his expression intent as the black-and-white image flickered to life.
"There's your baby." The doctor said, moving the wand slightly. "Everything looks great—14 weeks and 2 days, right on track."
The rhythmic sound of the heartbeat filled the room, steady and strong. I wasn't ready for this baby but i was content knowing it was healthy, at least. I glanced at Torrian, who hadn't taken his eyes off the screen.
"You two want to know the gender today?" The doctor asked, her tone casual but with a hint of excitement.
My eyes shot to her, then to Torrian.
"We can find out now?" I asked, my voice a little breathless.
She nodded. "We've got a good view today, so if you want to know, I can tell you. Or, if you're thinking about doing a gender reveal, we can write it down for you."
Torrian finally spoke, his voice low but eager. "What do you think?"
I hesitated, chewing my bottom lip. "I don't know. It's kind of exciting not knowing, but..."
"But you want to." He said, a small smirk tugging at his lips.
"You want to." I laugh softly before glancing at the doctor. "Could we...have a minute to think about it?"
"Of course." She said, setting the wand down and handing me a towel to wipe the gel off my stomach. "Take your time. I'll step out for a bit, and when you're ready, just press the call button."
